Description

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Certified Hand Therapist to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY: At Mountain View Hospital, the Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is responsible for evaluation and developing the therapy plan of care for a broad range of hand and upper extremity diagnoses and acuities. They are to establish and maintain strong working relationships with the local surgeons and providers and work close together to provide the patients with the best possible outcome. They also function and direct therapies under the physician’s order and treatment guidelines. Our hand therapists provides education to hand and upper extremity patients, patient’s family members and/or caregivers and collaborates with other health care professionals as needed. As a team member they provide patient care directly through delegation to Occupational or Physical Therapist Assistants and Technicians. Has responsibility for patient care delivered by assigned OTAs or PTAs. Serves as a preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced hand and upper extremity staff. May act as a clinical instructor to OT or PT and OTA or PTA students, residents and fellows. The hand therapist reports to the assigned specific Lead Therapist and/or outpatient therapies manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Certified Hand Therapist

1. Plans, coordinates, administers, and assesses physical or occupational therapy treatments to patients.

2. Administers active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, and heat, electrical modality treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and hot and cold packs.

3. Instructs, motivates, and assists patients to learn and improve functional activities such as pre-ambulation, transfer training, ambulation, and daily-living activities.

4. Observes patients during treatments and compiles and assesses data on patients’ responses to treatments and progress. Reports in writing or verbally to the supervising physical therapist. June, 2022 Page 3 of 5 Mountain View Hospital

5. Fits patients for, adjusts, and trains patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, splints, prostheses, and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.

6. Confers with members of the physical therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.

7. May measure patient’s range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments to compile data for patient evaluations.

8. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS: Maintains a current Certified Hand Therapist with Physical Therapist License (PT) and or Occupational Therapist License (OT). Hand Therapy Certification through Hand Therapy Credentialing Commission (HTCC). Also maintains a current CPR/First Aid and BLS certification.

Experience: Certified Hand Therapist preferred or working towards the hours of direct practice require to sit for the exam. Independence with custom fabricating of orthotics of any type of completing basic to moderately complex hand injury evaluations. June, 2022 Page 2 of 5 Mountain View Hospital

Equipment/Technology: May include, but not limited to, CPMs, SCDs Ultrasound, electrical stimulation equipment, therapeutic pool lifts, Hoyer lift, heat and cold pack units, traction machines, paraffin baths, TENS unit, crutches, walkers, canes, exercise equipment, wheelchairs, beds, general office equipment, safety equipment (safety belt, grab bars), and protective equipment (gloves, masks, gowns, goggles). Must be proficient in making a variety of custom splints for UE conditions.

Language/Communication: Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with various types of patients from all age groups and varied backgrounds and physical abilities.

Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills. Mental Capabilities: Requires calculating, analyzing, sorting, comparing, listening, and reading comprehension.

Interpersonal: Strong non cognitive skills ie: empathy, emotional intelligence, communication and clinical reasoning skills. Strong desire to be part of a team that emphasizes a service base culture. Truly enjoys working and helping others in a fun and rewarding environment. Must be able to interact with co-workers and patients in an effective manner.
