Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Level 3 NICU Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:

The Level III NICU Neonatal Nurse practitioner is responsible for providing care for infant’s immediately after birth and ongoing as needed for the duration of NICU stay. They will oversee direct care and indirect care for infant patients admitted to the NICU. The NNP will consult with the Neonatologist and nursing staff as needed. Consult with parents/guardians on aftercare and long-term health management for infants. The NNP will be responsible for the coordination and managing the clinical treatment of patients under the supervision/direction of the neonatologist performing procedures and test as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    2. Performing the duties of this job requires prolonged and extensive or considerable standing and walking. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; bend, stoop, kneel or crouch; talk, hear and smell.
    3. The employee must regularly lift, carry, position and/or move 25 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Serve as a clinician, consultant and licensed independent practitioner.
    2. Ability to effectively communicate clearly and respectfully and educate staff in regard to patients' condition, needed care, and expectations.
    3. Assess plan and prioritize clinical care needs for all patients in the NICU.
    4. Coordinate and evaluate the clinical treatment and effectiveness of treatments for patients as well as communicate with neonatologist regarding current patients.
    5. Ability to provide consultation to antenatal families in labor and delivery that may require NICU services.
    6. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
    7. Obtain health histories, perform comprehensive physical assessments and facilitate admissions to the NICU. Manage and promote the health and prevention of disease.
    8. Able to assess, diagnose, formulate an individualized plan of care, consult neonatologists and specialists as needed and revise care plans to accommodate patient’s response to treatment in an ongoing basis.
    9. Able view and interpret data about the patient’s status, labs, films and clinical presentation in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by each patient group. This may include nutritional adjustments, ventilator management, lab and radiology review and updating families.
    10. Capability to operate a variety of equipment related to infant support and care in the NICU. Able to perform procedures such as placing lines, chest tubes, needle aspiration, intubation ect.
    11. Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines.
    12. Communicate effectively with OB providers regarding best delivery options for potential NICU infant.
    13. A commitment to maintain up to date knowledge on current standards, guidelines and evidence based medicine for neonatal care.
    14. Implements a teaching plan to parents on identified learning need and evaluate effectiveness of learning (family is included as appropriate).
    15. Stabilize and transport infants as needed for continuation of appropriate medical care.
    16. Good knowledge of electronic medical records and ability to write provider notes and place and update orders in a timely manner.
    17. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds provide active management strategies and take nurses and parents’ concerns into considerations when creating a plan of care.
    18. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.
    19. Consults with other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
    20. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and to function in high stress situations.
    21. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
    22. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
    23. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department, with other departments, and with other facilities.
    24. Written and electronic documentation meets current standards and policies.
    25. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and families.
    26. Implements consultations and referrals as needed.
    27. Communicates effectively to other providers and staff.
    28. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications


Education/Certification: Have a current state license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. STABLE within 6 months of hire, BLS, and neonatal Resuscitation Program

Experience: Previous NICU experience preferred. Required is an in-depth knowledge in the care and management of neonatal conditions and problems.

Equipment/Technology: Basic Computer Skills. Able to use a variety of medical devices including, but not limited to I.V. pumps, radiant warmers, Neonatal monitoring devices, Newborn medication administration, and respiratory equipment.

Language/Communication Must have the sensitivity, maturity, and ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Personal Presentation: Excellent communication skills and leadership capability.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate drug dosages.

Mental Capabilities: Poses critical thinking skills and organization. Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and optimal outcome.

Interpersonal: Able to work well with others. Able to de-escalate volatile situations. Able to offer and consider constructive instruction. Possess leadership abilities.

Performance: Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Able to assess perform and prioritize patient care for safety and optimal outcome. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
