Overview

Exciting Applications Engineer Opportunity!!!

The Sr Technical Applications Engineer provides both pre-sales and post-sales technical support to the MPI team and Customer. This position requires a sound knowledge of the wax room operations, automation and equipment MPI produces, to identify the technical needs of the customer. TAE applying MPI’s solutions or adaptations of the product to meet the specific application is key to this position. The TAE provides technical support to MPI’s Sales Team as required from discovery, quotation, sales order, through delivery, installation, and acceptance. The TAE supports Engineering providing clear direction and is the gateway to the customer to ensure equipment meets the Customer’s expectations.

Qualifications

  • Communicate clearly and effectively through excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess exceptionally good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Command of MS Office SW Products.
  • Working knowledge or experience with ERP data entry, EpiCor a plus.
  • Ability to deliver Presentations in front of Technical or Commercial Customer staffing.

  • Excellent listening and reasoning skills.
  • Mentor to others.
  • Team player.

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Mechanical / Electrical or Robotics Engineering is preferred, similar experience will be considered.
  • 5 years working with capital equipment, knowledge of Hydraulics, Pneumatics, PLC’s, Windows, Automation and/or Robotics preferred.

Responsibilities

Pre-Sales:

  • Work directly with Sales supporting custom opportunities from a technical aspect.
  • Custom Injectors and automation on an as needed basis.
  • Knowledge of wax room operations, how the equipment is used by the customer with an understanding of what matters most to customers. “Understand what is of value to the Customer”
  • Determine technical feasibility of MPI solutions required to meet the customer’s application.
  • Injection machine sizing, and utilization of options
  • Automation cycle time calculations, equipment utilization, Yields, etc.
  • Material handling, full automation solutions
  • Identify the customer’s application and position MPI products to address the customers’ needs.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical assemblies that compile the options within a machine. Has the ability to provide information to Sales when quoting custom assemblies to fully automated lines.
  • Understands injection, wax assembly, and robotic processes.
  • Knowledge of machine operation including purpose/function of all standard features and options.
  • Participate in presentations, customer calls and onsite visits to support the technical requirements of a sale.
  • Gain customer acceptance by explaining or demonstrating MPI’s technical benefits and value.
  • Work as a key team member to win the customers confidence and secure the customer’s order.
  • Review Technical Specifications from the customer and respond in writing to support the sales effort.
  • Consult MPI engineering when required and collaborate on a developing a technical solution / strategy representing the customer application requirements.
  • Work with Engineering to supply concept drawings/illustrations collaborating when required.

Post-Sales:

  • Project Ownership is passed to the Engineering Department. TAE coordinates efforts between Sales, the Customer and Engineering.
  • Review Sales Order, collaborate with the Sales Department to confirm the configuration matches the customer’s technical requirements of the sale.
  • Has direct contact with the Customer to resolve technical issues.
  • Clearly communicates requirements to MPI’s internal team.
  • Coordinates with Engineering to supply custom machine drawings when required.
  • Liaisons with Engineering team during the design phase to assure all Engineering questions are addressed in a timely fashion to maintain on time delivery.
  • Acts as a primary technical point person between Sales/Customer and Engineering.
  • Monitors the Epicor schedule to communicate status within Engineering team and to the Customer.
  • Communicates with the Engineering team on a regular basis.
  • Communicates with the Customer on a regular basis.
  • Guides the customer through the process of keeping the project on plan.
  • Monitors Factory Acceptance Testing and provides support as required to ensure that the product application/solution is functioning according to specifications and purchase order.
  • Monitors progress and communicates with the Customer and MPI’s team to ensure Customer expectations are met.
  • Possesses process knowledge to steer customers towards process optimization.
  • Monitors Site Installation and Product Acceptance Testing as required.
  • Monitors progress and communicates with the Customer and MPI’s team to ensure Customer expectations are met.

General:

  • Sound understanding of electro-mechanical design, drawing practices, geometric tolerances, and dimensioning regarding machine tool design.
  • Previous design experience with OEM / capital equipment support with automation/robotics is preferred.
  • Knowledge of machine sequencing and controls is desirable. (Does not have to be a programmer)
  • Understanding of machine bill of materials, machine costing and review of machine pricing.Utilize MPI’s preferred ERP system to effectively document and communicate within MPI.
  • Make recommendations that will reduce costs and improve the product efficiency.
  • Support Sales providing technical response and guidance to customers. Has excellent personal communication skills.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales and Engineering to produce a synergistic message to MPI’s customers.
  • Ability to travel worldwide as required (4-6 trips per year as required)
  • Other duties assigned by management.
