MRA Recruiting Services is Hiring an Executive Director Near Woodstock, IL

Turning Point is seeking their next Executive Director to lead our organization as we continue to provide invaluable resources to victims of domestic violence in McHenry County.
We seek a leader who encompasses the following:
  • Is visionary and their career has shown progressive leadership experience and, most importantly, they have a deep passion for the mission of the agency
  • Has strong relationship-building/management skills with experience in coalition building and advocacy
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with funders, potential donors, and other sources of financial and programmatic support. Fundraising experience and financial skills are highly valued
  • The desire and ability to engage a team of professionals at all levels of experience providing organizational management and coaching
  • Proven ability to cultivate a strong, supportive culture to manage and lead a complex organization, while valuing diversity amongst staff and client base
  • Experience working with a committed volunteer Board of Directors
  • Has strong financial acumen and budget forecasting skills
  • Master’s degree in business, human services, organizational management or finance with a minimum of ten (10) years in leadership positions, nonprofit preferred. Demonstration of continuing professional education, accreditation in a professional field and/or nonprofit board leadership would be highly desirable
  • The successful candidate would be expected to obtain their Certified Domestic Violence Professional (CDVP) within one year of hire and maintain the certification
  • Experience with strategic planning is advantageous
About us: Turning Point is a comprehensive domestic violence agency offering victim services and the only secure emergency shelter in McHenry County. Since 1981, we have worked diligently to develop necessary programs and provide ongoing efforts to establish safe environments for individuals and families in our community. Because domestic violence does not discriminate; perpetrators and abused spouses, partners and families come from all demographic categories. Therefore, Turning Point’s services reach all socio-economic, educational, and cultural populations in McHenry County.As the Executive Director, you will lead and direct the achievement of the organization’s mission, strategic plan, annual goals and budget, program development, and financial goals, reporting to the Board of Directors. To be successful in this role, you will inspire and guide the management team, think strategically about how to advance and sustain the mission, raise resources in support of the mission, promote best practices and serve as the face of the organization in the community it serves.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Leadership
  • Foster an organizational culture that supports the mission, vision and values and ensure all activities of the organization impacts them effectively
  • Develop and recommend policies and procedures to the Board of Directors to facilitate smooth and effective operation of the agency
  • Work closely with the Executive Committee
  • Provide overall direction and supervision to the management team for the daily operations of the agency
  • Ensure the agency is in compliance with all relevant laws, ethical principles and best practices in all aspects of operations
  • Provides reports and updates on agency health, opportunities for Mission growth, barriers to success and financial needs to the Board of Directors during meetings or as requested
Fundraising
  • Create and foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization
  • Provide stewardship in all fundraising efforts, ensuring they are socially responsible, meet legal and ethical requirements, and offer gratitude to funders and donors
  • Nurture and maintain supportive community relationships and donor loyalty
  • Ensure compliance is met for all grants
  • Oversee all sources of funding including corporate giving, foundation and governmental sources of funding, individual donations and special events
  • Drives advocacy for agency funding at the state and federal levels
Marketing, Communications and Public Relations
  • Be the face of the organization and its greatest advocate by articulating the mission, vision and values of the agency through all communication channels
  • Cultivate, educate and enhance relationships with major stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with police departments, social service agencies, emergency departments, the county crisis programs, the State’s Attorney, mayors and legislators and major grantors
  • Ensure the publication of Turning Point’s Annual Report and distribute it to key stakeholders
  • Ensure there is a yearly marketing and PR plan that is utilized to help increase awareness and reach of Turning Point services as well as engage prospective donors
Human Capital Management
  • Create a trauma-informed culture of care within the agency for clients as well as staff, ensuring staff are cultivating empowerment and independence for clients
  • Provide professional development and ensure succession planning to retain staff and institutional knowledge
  • Ensure that employment policies are equally enforced and in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and Turning Point policies
Program Leadership
  • Utilize the strategic plan as the lens for short-term and long-term programmatic planning purposes
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, oversee all programming to ensure high mission impact, effectiveness, and best practices
  • Maintain Turning Point as a member of ICADV by ensuring all programs and staff meet ICADV requirements including following best practices, attending Program Council meetings quarterly and participating in an ICADV committee once a month
  • Support the Associate Director in oversight of site reviews by funders
  • Provide support and consultation to direct service staff in challenging situations, and crisis intervention services to clients when staffing is needed
  • Manage being on-call for situations that are needed
Financial Management
  • Manage the fiscal operations in collaboration with the Finance Manager, the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors
  • Review fiscal policies and submit changes to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors
  • Work with the Finance Manager to develop an agency annual financial plan
  • Work with the Finance Manager and Finance Committee to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of financial reporting
