THE ROLE
For the newly created position of Group VP, Government Affairs (United States), MSC is looking for an outstanding campaigner for the company toward policymakers and key stakeholders, who will also further enhance the government affairs capability across the Group.
This role is ideal for an experienced and proven energetic leader who is proactive, a strategic thinker, a skilled communicator, and a great team-player.
As a Group VP, Government Affairs you will:
  • Anticipate regulatory challenges, acting as an external advocate for the Group on priority policy matters and identifying opportunities to build relationships with external partners.
  • Report to the Group Executive VP, Maritime Policy and Government Affairs and be a US-located member of the Geneva-based Group Maritime Policy and Government Affairs Department.
  • Lead MSC's government-facing advocacy in the United States (US), towards the US and with global impact.
  • Evaluate US policy priorities and legislative developments, and work to understand the impact on MSC's business.
  • Articulate MSC's positioning to relevant policymakers and officials from national, state, and local governments, as well as in cooperation with the team within other relevant identified national markets.
  • Work to build and maintain relationships with key policymakers, and to find engagement opportunities with business partners, NGOs and other third-party organizations related to government affairs matters.
  • Provide timely updates to colleagues from MSC Group's leadership and other internal stakeholders.
YOUR BACKGROUND:
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience working with or within US government institutions, national regulators and/or governments, and/or ideally including experience within a transport or logistics company.
  • In depth knowledge (i.e., policy, technical, operational) of the Shipping Industry will be considered an advantage but not essential.
  • Good understanding of the US policy framework important to MSC.
  • Passion for maritime matters and the maritime ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated stature and presence necessary for his/her significant external roles.
  • Strong communications (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented, well organized and a sense of initiative.
  • The ability to multitask and manage multiple files and interact diplomatically within MSC.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, and US citizenship, are essential.
  • University degree, with a relevant advanced degree an advantage.
