Monsignor Clarke School Assistant PrincipalGeneral SummaryThis position serves under the direction of the principal as a member of the Monsignor Clarke School administration. This position provides assistance with upholding and advancing the school’s Catholic mission, core values, instructional program, building administration, personnel/staffing, pupil services and school/community relations. The assistant principal has shared responsibilities with the principal and serves as the principal in his absence. The assistant principal may assume responsibilities as directed and supervised by the principal. Candidate should be a disciple of Jesus Christ committed to the teachings of the Catholic Church.Assistant Principal Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Leadership: •Works collaboratively with the principal in support of the Catholic mission of Monsignor Clarke School.•Assists in providing leadership for the overall instructional program of the school.•Works collaboratively with all staff to strengthen the curricula, instruction, & assessment.•Collaborates with the principal to design and conduct ongoing professional development for teachers and staff.•Meets with teachers about concerns and recommendations. •Attends all Advisory Board meetings and also attend sub-committee meetings as assigned by the principal •Orders all supplies/textbooks for the school according to the approved budget throughout the school year and summer, coordinates delivery, inventory, distribution to designated classrooms. •Conducts formal and informal classroom professional observations in assigned classrooms in fall and spring as directed by the principal. •Oversees STAR test administration each year. Works with teachers to schedule tests, and prepare all materials for submission after testing. Analyze STAR test scores and meet with teachers to implement strategies to combat problem areas. •Orders and oversees ACRE testing each year. With the principal and middle school religion teacher, interpret the results and implement strategies to help raise test scores based on results.•Assists principal in interviewing and selecting new faculty. •Assists in accreditation process.•Assists the principal in the implementation of a mentor program for new teachers. Checks in daily with new faculty to help them adjust to a new position. Meets monthly with new staff for more in-depth training.•Confer with the principal to evaluate present courses of study and yearly assess the school’s curriculum and materials in light of STAR/standardized-testing results. •Monitors curriculum changes dictated by the Catholic School Office.•Schedules and oversees the grading and progress report inputting and examines grades for continuity, bias, and standardization in collaboration with Principal.•In conjunction with the principal, director of admissions and grade 8 teachers, is responsible for procedures relative to the grade 8 high school application process and placement test, Honors Night and Graduation. Works with grade 8 teachers to collect and write recommendations for students.Discipline & Student Safety: •Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the building. •Assists in the upkeep of the documentation of behavioral infractions.•Supervises administrative detention for students (e.g. in-school suspension, etc). Keeps records of student disciplinary action and behavior plans. •Supervises the safety and well-being of all students with drop off, recess, and dismissal.•Participates in school disaster preparedness and emergency/safety information programs. Updates the emergency exit floor plan. Coordinates safety drills with the principal and main office.•Serves as primary administrator for coordination of school handbook policies, including discipline and responsive interventions; establish and enforce guidelines and expectations regarding the discipline policy of the school. Work with teachers to assist in implementing policies.•Coordinate training and evaluation of substitute teachers, and teacher absence scheduling•Supervises the monitoring of student attendance. •Confers with teachers/parents concerning excessive attendance problems in coordination with the school nurse. Generates letters for excessive absences.Scheduling: •Assists in the development of class schedules and scheduling of extracurricular activities.•Works with the Athletic Director to schedule the gym and playing fields for athletic teams and members of the community.•Assists with keeping the building schedules and adjusting them when activities or events arise.•Works with the administrative team in scheduling IEP meetings.•Works with the main office in scheduling volunteers for lunch and recess duties.•Receives all requests for URI internships/practicums, Work with teachers to coordinate scheduling. Works with college professionals in overseeing placement and assessment of students.Other Administrative Tasks: •Acts in a supportive role in working with parents, teachers, and the community to promote the effective flow of communication. •Attends IEP meetings as Administration representative and advocates for students to get the services they are entitled to under IDEA.•Participates in professional growth to improve skills related to the job. •Attends diocesan principal meetings as directed by the principal •Assists the principal in updating the Student/Parent, Faculty/Staff handbooks on a yearly basis. •Assists the principal with strategic planning and with accreditation process. •Oversees all Federal Title Funding that is available to private schools including conducting needs assessments, drafting program plans, submitting use of funds forms, and tracking budgets.•Shares responsibility with the principal for all school activities including those that take place in the evening and on weekends.•Shares responsibility with the principal in participating and facilitating staff Common Planning Time (CPT) and Professional Learning Committee (PLC) meetings.•Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.Requirements•Candidates should possess a state-issued teaching certificate and have relevant teaching experience.•Candidates should have outstanding interpersonal skills, a high level of emotional intelligence and ability to lead and influence.
