Custodian w/ School Bus License

Job Goal(s): Full-time, year-round position to include snow days, scrub weeks, and summer break. This may also include driving a school bus when need be.

Qualification

  • High School graduate or GED 
  • Must have passed a physical exam as directed by state requirements and comply with stipulations recommended by the school's examining physician.
  • Hold a valid Maine driver's license to drive school
  • Participate in the Driving Dynamics course as recommended by the State and required by the District
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical information
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals and equipment
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees. Be a team player.
  • Self-directed/motivated
  • Job requires physical ability to lift 40, stand, climb stairs and ladders, lift, push, pull, and bend for extended periods.

Certifications

  • Maine DOE Certification - CHRC
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License 
  • CPR Certified
Performance Responsibilities
  • Perform general custodial duties at the assigned location(s).
  • Provide an adequate custodial inventory of materials and
  • Perform emergency custodial duties during the school
  • Replace materials as needed such as paper towels, soap, light bulbs,
  • Maintain the building in a safe, neat, and orderly
  • Help keep the grounds and play areas free from
  • Assume responsibility for the general security of the
  • Assume responsibility for the general fire safety of the
  • Become familiar with all emergency procedures of the building including valves, switches, and other building equipment.
  • Keeping exits and entrances clear and safe including snow removal, and sanding, also to include any portable classrooms that are associated with the building.

  • Offer input to the Director of Support Services or his/her designee regarding materials, equipment, procedures, and maintenance needs.

  • Be in uniform dress code all the days required in the Support Staff

  • Follow all requirements regarding the time clock

  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Know and understand the use of Safety Data Sheets (SOS).

  • Perform a pre-trip "walk-around" inspection of the vehicle before operation and report defects to the lead mechanic by means of a defect card.

  • Keep oil, coolant, and fuel at a proper operating

  • Maintain vehicle in a clean and orderly

  • Supervise and discipline all passengers during their

  • Report students needing further disciplinary action to the Lead Driver, Director of Support Services, or his/her designee.

  • Observe and obey all traffic laws and safety regulations of the State, the Town, and the

  • Keep to the assigned schedule discharging only authorized students at authorized bus

  • Attend all transportation safety meetings and conferences as directed and apply the knowledge obtained at these meetings to the proper operation of the assigned vehicle and route.

  • Report ALL accidents no matter how small to the Director of Support Services or his/her designee, and follow the verbal report with a written accident form.

Education

    • High School graduate or GED

Reports To: Director of Transportation

Terms of Employment: As determined annually by the District.
