Mt. Lebanon Extended Day program is hiring a summer Lifeguard/counselor to work in our innovative summer camp environment serving children completing grades K-5. The program offers STEAM activities, swimming, field trips, and team building.

Your primary position will be a lifeguard for the children in our program at the Mt. Lebanon Pool. We offer lifeguard certification if needed at no expense to you. Several hours per day you will also serve as a camp counselor. If you are passionate about positively impacting the lives of children and having the opportunity to use your creativity to work in staff to child ratio of 1:12, then this position is a good fit. You will work 6 hours each day Monday through Friday from 12pm-6pm. . Our staff is comprised of year- round teachers as well as summer seasonal staff who will have opportunities for year- round employment.

Camp Counselor Responsibilities:

The Counselor’s daily interaction with children must be positive and build self- esteem and mutual respect. This will be accomplished by:

·· Frequent casual conversation with children

• Use of non-judgmental words/phrases
• Monitoring and guiding conversations for appropriate language and subject matter
• Stimulating thinking and creativity through questioning, suggestions, etc.
• Ensuring that children have choices and decisions regarding activities
• Consistency in enforcing program expectations

Camp Counselor/Lifeguard Qualifications:

· Have a passion for working with school-age children

• Be enthusiastic and engaging with children
• Enjoy working with a team of other teachers
• Be at least 18 years of age and a HS graduate.
• Obtain child abuse, criminal background check and FBI background check.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willing to obtain)
• Lifeguard certification (or willing to obtain)
