Mullens Markings is Hiring a Director of Finance Near Culpeper, VA

Mullens Markings Inc. is looking for a Director of Finance to join our team in Culpeper, VA. MMI is a full-service line striping and pavement marking company providing high quality highway, roadway, and parking lot striping services throughout Virginia. The Director of Finance will report to the General Manager of MMI and is primarily responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and ad hoc financial support of business operations. This individual will also be involved, in partnership with the Controller, in the month end close.

A key component to this position will be the development of a strategic finance function at MMI, which will drive the systematic development of business insights and intelligence for the betterment of the company, specifically the Operations and Sales/Estimating teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the development of budgets, forecasts, operating plans, and long-term strategic plans.
  • Prepares ad-hoc reports and performs financial and operational analysis as directed.
  • Works closely with the accounting, budgeting, and operational teams to implement toolsets needed for understanding trends and results.
  • Implements dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and other value-added reporting tools to enable department leadership to better understand and manage their businesses.
  • Develops reporting tools/reports and perform analyses to support ongoing strategic initiatives.
  • Analyzes department and program performance to plan/forecast and recommends appropriate actions to ensure targets and goals are met.
  • Actively participates in and manages key financial initiatives and strategic projects.
  • Review existing processes and procedures to develop recommendations for improvement efforts, in particular around the month end close process.
  • Drives consistent and best-in-class processes across operating units. Work with operational departments to drive integration of financial information and analysis and identify smart actions and mitigate any potential risk.
  • Partners with other department leaders and staff to enhance finance related decisions, introduce process discipline, and ensure the existence of appropriate controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Leads, supports, and participates in the timely completion of the month end close, including month end inventory counts/observations.
  • Assist in creating and posting general ledger entries for unbilled revenue and inventory.
  • Actively participate in corporate activities related to the annual audit, acquisition due diligence/integration, systems upgrades/enhancements, and other key initiatives.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5 years of investment banking, public accounting and/or direct Financial Planning & Analysis experience.
  • COINS ERP experience preferred.
  • Experience in the construction industry preferred.
  • Solid understanding of accounting and financial practices and standards.
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic fast-paced environment, proven problem solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and achievement/results oriented; ability to work independently or part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong analytical skills applied to business and financial data.
