Fleet & Safety Manager's Key Responsibilities:

1. Safety Policy Development and Implementation:

  • Conduct safety meetings every month.
  • Develop and update fleet & safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all fleet operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Implement safety programs to reduce accidents and improve overall safety.

2. Training and Development:

  • Conduct safety training for all employees as needed including drivers and regional managers.
  • Organize ongoing training sessions to keep employees updated on safety practices and regulatory changes.
  • Develop educational materials and safety manuals.

3. Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular audits of fleet operations to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Keep abreast of changes in regulations and update policies accordingly.

4. Accident Investigation and Reporting:

  • Investigate all accidents including fleet vehicles to determine causes and prevent future occurrences.
  • Prepare detailed accident reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Coordinate with insurance companies as necessary.

5. Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Implement safety measures to minimize risk and enhance safety.
  • Analyze safety data and trends to inform decision-making.

6. Maintenance Coordination:

  • Ensure vehicles are regularly inspected and maintained in safe working conditions.
  • Coordinate scheduled repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain records of vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs.

7. Driver Performance Monitoring:

  • Monitor driver performance and conduct regular evaluations with our Samsara system.
  • Address safety violations and provide corrective actions as needed.
  • Promote safe driving behaviors and encourage a culture of safety among drivers.

8. Communication and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with management, drivers, and other departments to ensure safety goals are met.
  • Communicate safety expectations and updates to all regional managers.
  • Provide regular reports to management on fleet safety performance.

Requirements

Qualifications Need for the Safety Manager:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Transportation Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management or safety management.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and other relevant safety regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions and develop educational materials.
  • Proficiency in using fleet management software (Samara) and safety reporting tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Working Conditions:

  • The role may require travel to various fleet locations.
  • May involve working outside regular business hours to address emergencies or conduct training.
