About the Position

The Social Services Coordinator completes social service assessments, provides continuous psychosocial assessment and is actively involved in the interdisciplinary treatment planning process. The Social Services Coordinator will work as part of a multidisciplinary team serving adults in an involuntary inpatient psychiatric hospital located in West Seattle.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

• Active in evaluating medical necessity criteria for treatment and legal criteria for involuntary treatment holds.

• Complete social service assessments, provides continuous psychosocial assessment and to be actively involved in the interdisciplinary treatment planning process.

• Evaluate patient needs for shelter, funding and outpatient treatment and provides active discharge planning in conjunction with the treatment team and existing community providers.

• Provide patient and family education regarding the patient’s treatment and discharge planning needs.

• May provide individual and group treatment; Active in evaluating medical necessity criteria for treatment and legal criteria for involuntary treatment holds.

• Follows organization infection control policies and procedures. At risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens.

• Performs other job duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• Has professional interest and commitment to the mentally ill/chemical dependent individual and to the development of systems of care for the mentally ill.

• Also requires organizational and computer skills.

• Commitment to the interdisciplinary team approach in the treatment and care of patients.

• Able to interact with team members in a collaborative manner.

• Ability to interact with patients with sensitivity, tact and respect; as well as firmness when necessary.

• Solid knowledge of theories of human behavior, personality development and psychological and physical causes of mental disorders.

• Knowledge of principles and techniques of group and individual therapy and experience providing same; understanding of principles and methods of intervention.

• Able to represent the facility to the community in a professional manner; able to communicate with families and outside agencies with clarity, sensitivity and tact.

• Familiar with the Washington Administrative Code and professional standards governing the treatment of mentally ill patients.

Skills, Education, & Experience:

• M.S.W. Required

• Active WA State licensure or Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration (or ability to obtain before hire).

• Experience in inpatient settings preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Excellent writing and computer skills required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee / patient interaction may involve lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and stooping requiring upper and lower body strength. Lifting up to fifty pounds may be required without assistance.
