Family & Community Engagement Coordinator

CREDENTIALS: Bachelor's Degree in social work, education, communications, or related field.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a passion for working with children, adults, and families of various ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Must be able to schedule activities, meetings, and/or other events; to gather, compile, and disaggregate data. Must relate well to children, teachers, parents, colleagues, and the community. Must be able to follow and give directions, make decisions, demonstrate skills in group dynamics, analyze issues, creatively problem solve, and create action plans. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must be a leader able to deal with diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills who is dedicated to development of the whole child, community partnerships, open communication, and collaboration

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have and maintain physical sensory, emotional, and mental abilities necessary for effective communication in person, in writing, and by telephone. Must have good memory, be able to organize thoughts and activities, do basic mathematical computations, and articulate clearly. Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends, participate in occasional overnight travel, and provide own transportation during performance of duty. Must be emotionally mature and able to appropriately handle stress.

PRIMARY DUTIES: This person has the responsibility for assessing student and community needs for the purpose of suggesting plans of service to support educational objectives; coordinating community resources to meet the needs of students and their families; and serve as a liaison between Murfreesboro City Schools and other community agencies.

Serve as the Family Resource Coordinator for Murfreesboro City Schools following the outlines of the TN Family Resource Center. FRCs proactively engage with their communities to empower students and families, bridging gaps to ensure they evolve together through connected systems of support unique to each community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Model leadership that is collaborative, intentional, and purposeful.
  • Coordinate and conduct workshops (e.g., parenting skills, community resources, district programs, social skill development, etc.) for parents and/or students of Murfreesboro for the purpose of maintaining positive home environments, building trust between families and Murfreesboro City Schools, and supporting the educational programs of children.
  • Develop calendar of events for schools/district specific to parent engagement
  • Motivate and mentor families to connect with and access services that will help maintain safe, positive home environments.
  • Serve as liaison for school counselors and social workers for parent engagement activities & assist in eliminating barriers for students.
  • Work with principals/school admin/school-based outreach designees to develop a comprehensive school outreach plan for the school year when needed.
  • Oversee the funding and programing of student backpack program, food pantry and basic necessities.
  • Establish and sustain meaningful relationships with school personnel, students, families, community organizations, philanthropic groups, etc. to broaden and link available community resources.
  • Identify and secure financial and/or technical assistance through collaborations and partnerships with community agencies and organizations.
  • Establish a system for evaluation and monitoring to assess the effectiveness of FRC programming.
  • Provide interagency services/resources information on issues such as parent training, crisis intervention, respite care and counseling needs for families of children with behavioral/emotional disorders.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports as required.
  • Maintain a FRC Advisory Council. Meet at least twice a year to develop strategies for upcoming semester and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Handles sensitive material in a confidential manner.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
  • Requires periodic early morning, evening, and weekend hours to engage in parent meetings, clinics or other school events.
