Job Description Summary
We are seeking a candidate who will assist our ongoing research directed toward understanding mechanisms of lupus nephritis. The candidate will perform supervised work on several projects using cultured cells and mouse/human samples. General duties will include culturing of primary cells, assisting in collection, processing and cataloging tissue samples, performing various molecular analyses (gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry, qRT-PCR, etc.), and participating in laboratory discussions, organization and regulatory procedures. Maintenance of up-to-date, comprehensive, and neat laboratory records will be required.
May require occasional weekend work.

Job Description
Job Duties:
30% - Perform variety of cell and molecular biological techniques, record data. Analyze experimental results using appropriate software; help prepare experimental results for presentation and publication. Ability to work independently with limited guidance, as well as work collaborative as part of a team.
30% - Maintain primary and established cell lines by culturing/subculturing cells, preparing/performing cell culture experiments, routinely testing cells for contamination, and tracking cell line inventory.
20% - Develop and test new laboratory methods/techniques to meet changing needs; troubleshoot experimental protocols.
20% - Maintain laboratory supplies; prepare media, buffers, and other reagents as needed. Keep complete laboratory records/notebook and communication with collaborators.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred
  • Knowledge about small-volume fluid handling, RNA procedures, tissue culture/sterile technique, and general cell, molecular, biochemical, and/or immunological methods is essential, and hands-on experience working in a laboratory setting is desired.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques and primary sterile cell culture techniques preferred. Proficiency with computers and experience with spreadsheet, statistical, and graphical software are also preferred. Mouse handling/husbandry experience is preferred, but not required.
  • The candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, a talent for managing diverse tasks, and an ability to work well in a collaborative team.
  • Candidate should be highly motivated, detail oriented, and committed to excellence. The ideal candidate will have a keen intellectual interest in the science behind the projects and a demonstrated commitment to increasing their background knowledge about their work, as well as seeking out and establishing new techniques. After an initial period of training, the individual in this position is expected to work independently in planning and performing experiments, and in analyzing data and preparing figures for presentations and manuscripts.

(Frequent) Ability to maneuver heavy equipment on bench tops, 50 lbs. or greater, unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors, normally. (Continuous) Ability to hear and recognize various alarms emitting from work area systems. (Continuous) Ability to hear and/or understand conversations.
