Job Description SummaryThe candidate will provide a full range of technical and professional research services in the Addiction Sciences Division of MUSC for Dr. Erin McClure. The candidate will be located at MUSC Charleston and will be responsible for oversight of Dr. McClure’s ongoing trials. The candidate will work closely with MUSC Charleston research staff and remote research staff in Pickens, SC. Job responsibilities include handling administrative responsibilities for studies, reporting on outcomes and progress, training research staff and complying with Good Clinical Practice standards, and working in collaboration with the remote Program Manager at Pickens to ensure successful execution of all ongoing studies.
Specific tasks may include; overseeing subject recruitment, data collection and management, data quality control and data audits, purchasing study supplies and managing supply inventory, working with the Program Manager in assuring regulatory compliance, building and maintaining REDCap study databases. This role may include supervisory duties such as training and overseeing Program Assistants and signing off on timesheets and time off requests. The candidate will have exceptional organizational, management and interpersonal skills and be able to manage tasks across several ongoing studies. Experience with REDCap is highly preferred, as well as experience working on multi-site clinical trials. Finally, the candidate must have exceptional interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively with research staff, remote site staff, medical clinicians, administrative staff, and study subjects.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM, on campus; This may position may involve occasional weekend (~1 per month) and weekday/evening hours.
Remote Work: No remote option for work initially, but remote work options can be considered for 1 day per week after 6 months of employment
Job Duties
  • 20% - Manages fiscal responsibilities including but not limited to, study invoices, purchasing card reconciliation, works and OurDay documentation, and participant remuneration. Stays up to date with fiscal trainings and proper procedures.
  • 20% - Supervisory duties including training and supervision for Program Assistants and reviewing/monitoring overall performance. Signs off on time sheets as well as time off requests as Dr. McClure sees fit. Serves as expert resource for junior staff members and addresses questions and concerns, in addition to addressing performance issues and resolutions.
  • 15% - Assists the Program Manager with preparing, developing, reporting, submitting and maintaining communications with the IRB, OCR, PRA, NIH, and clinicaltrials.gov regarding grant development (drafting protocols and consents for the PI), recruitment milestones, study design/procedures, adverse events and reporting, protocol deviations, study renewal, study termination, study amendments, and other activities necessary for regulatory compliance.
  • 10% - Develop and update local standard operating procedures and study flow that is consistent with the protocol; Develop site and study specific recruitment procedures including all study advertising; monitor for effectiveness and revise as appropriate. Work closely with research staff and PI to ensure all aspects of the study are in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations, Good Clinical Practice, and MUSC Policies.
  • 10% - Detects issues related to data capture, collection or management and suggests solutions. Respond promptly to resolving any data query issues such as inconsistent data collection from participants, incorrect reports, malfunctions in databases or other technology for data collection utilized in multiple studies. Coordinate and manage tracking of all research participants including but not limited to, recruitment and advertisement tracking and retention rates.
  • 10% - Provide oversite and management of protocol supply inventory including study mailing materials, study devices, and handles all shipping for participant supplies.
  • 10% - Ensure recruitment and timeline goals for studies are met. Under minimal to no supervision, develops and implements strategies to increase research participation, retention, and follow up rates, such as advertisements across new social media platforms, participant reminders via email/text, and consulting with other MUSC research teams/recruitment companies. Takes a proactive approach to addressing issues and barriers to study enrollment, recruitment and follow-up.
  • 5% - Works collaboratively with research staff from multiple study sites to ensure consistency in procedures, addressing issues and maintaining data integrity and high data quality and appropriate progress on studies.
Preferred Training and Experience Requirements: A background in human subjects research is required, in some capacity. Ability to collect, organize, and analyze information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to think critically, proactively address potential issues and solutions, and effectively manage time and tasks through exceptional organizational skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, sponsors, other health care professionals, other research teams, administrative staff, etc.
A background in research, including in the development of electronic research databases within REDCap is strongly preferred. Previous experience with managing staff or serving in a supervisory role is preferred.
