Job Description SummaryThe Staff Scientist ll primary role is to facilitate experiments in the Bioenergetic Profiling Core Facility and Analytical Redox Biochemistry Core. The incumbent is responsible for operating Agilent/Seahorse instruments, cellular respirometry and conducting plate reader experiments, tissue culture, and reagent preparation. The incumbent will provide expert guidance to Core Users and execute experiments independently. The incumbent will be aid in the design and analysis of experiments. The incumbent will help manage a diverse portfolio of biomedical research projects, contribute to publications, and oversee daily operations of the Cores.

Work ShiftJob DescriptionJob Duties:
(30%) Document protocol optimization and experimental results, analyze data, and advise principal investigator, core facility users, and lab members in adaptation and completion of experimental design, execution, and analyses. Develop extensive knowledge of the Agilent Wave software. Develop knowledge and expertise at flow cytometry and microscopy, especially using the ZOOM Essen and Cytation 5 microscopes.
(20%) Plan, coordinate, communicate and direct project goals and timetables among diverse, separate research projects, including time/cost budgeting, trouble shooting and protocol revision for lab members and core facility members.
(10%) Responsible for manuscript writing, scholarly work publication, presentation at national and international society meetings and grant writing.
(10%) Prepare and train lab members and core facility users in the proper protocol for preparing solutions, reagents, media or stains necessary for prescribed tests.
(10%) Apply standard quality control techniques to assure quality of Biolog and Agilent/Seahorse XF test and imaging results. Train and supervise lab members and core facility core members in proper application of techniques and data analyses.
(5%) Maintain calibration and service of Agilent/Seahorse Legacy and XF96e instruments and all other core facility instruments including imagers, microscopes and plate readers. Trouble shoots and resolves technical problems.
(5%) Inventory of lab supplies, ordering of supplies, monitor spending for budgetary and reporting purposes, and ensure maintenance of laboratory databases. Schedule use of XF and imaging instruments, training and maintain usage and billing records.
(10%) Perform complex laboratory procedures in one or more areas of laboratory investigation, including tissue and cell culture, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, PCR, plate readers and a variety of molecular biology procedures.
Minimum Training And ExperienceA Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent with two years post doctorate experience plus evidence of scholarly activity as demonstrated by at least five first author publications.
