Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is Hiring a Manager of Student and Family Programs (Bilingual) Near Chicago, IL

The Manager of Student and Family Programs (Bilingual - Spanish) manages the development, delivery, and evaluation of innovative experiences for student and family audiences. The Manager develops and implements experiences that actively engage these audiences with the MCA’s exhibitions, collections, and programs, inviting participation, reflection, and connection among visitors and art. They are also responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and training of staff educators as well as hiring of contractors. To be successful in this role, you must:

• Develop, implement, and evaluate MCA’s field trip programs for students to align with developmentally appropriate learning standards, CPS curriculum and MCA exhibitions, including live, digital, and in-gallery experiences.

• Develop, implement, and evaluate MCA’s family programs to align with stages of child and youth development, including live, digital, and in-gallery experiences.

• Supervise, mentor, train, and oversee direct reports on a day-to-day basis, including oversight of special projects and staff management to ensure the effective and efficient operation of all assigned activities and responsibilities.

• Conceive and write concise curriculum and program material for internal and external distribution, often collaborating with other staff.

• Support Director of Interpretation and In-Gallery Learning (DIIGL) in preparing an annual budget for interpretation programs and resources; closely monitor expenses, prepare reports and projections as requested, and submit expenses and contract approvals on a timely basis to supervisors and Finance and Accounting staff.

• Assist DIIGL with funding proposals and reports; participate in visitor research projects as assigned.

• Work with DIIGL and Communications to develop strategic outreach and growth of diverse audiences for student and family programs. Communicate and represent programs clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor of Arts in Education, Museum Studies, Art History, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a museum, cultural organization, or education position.
  • Knowledge of and experience in gallery-based teaching and art interpretation including ability to effectively teach with works of art, design lessons, and develop curricula in various contexts.
  • Experience inspiring, supporting, and managing work and growth of direct reports.
  • Knowledge of contemporary art as well as museum education practice and learning theory.
  • Experience implementing antiracist pedagogy, social and emotional learning, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience working with public school students and practicing artists.
  • Basic budget development and maintenance skills.
  • Ability to see works of visual art.
  • Experience leading multiple complex projects simultaneously and maintaining accountability to set outcomes.
  • Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential personal information and sensitive information.
  • Ability to lead programs and tours in the museum building.

$53,140 - $69,080 a year

This is a full-time position, with a Monday - Friday 9a-5p schedule that may occasionally include evening and weekend availability as required to fulfill responsibilities and for related museum activities. Ability to operate computers, printers, and telephones and general mobility throughout all museum properties required.
