Museum of Fine Arts is Hiring an Artful Healing Educator Near Boston, MA

Position Overview:

The Artful Healing Program is a unique opportunity for art educators interested in applying the arts to the community. It encourages participants of all ages and abilities in healthcare settings to engage with the diversity of the MFA's encyclopedic collection. 

Under the direction of the Restorative Arts Coordinator, the Artful Healing Instructor teaches in various Artful Healing programs, taking place mainly off-site at neighborhood health centers and hospitals, including Boston Children's Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Massachusetts General Hospital. 

Essential Functions

  • Teaches Artful Healing programs off-site at healthcare facilities. Artful Healing sessions include presenting the MFA collection with participants in a group setting or at the bedside, followed by a related hands-on art activity.
  • Contributes to teaching Beyond The Spectrum classes, which are located on-site at the Museum of Fine Arts. These classes include a gallery tour through the museum, followed by an art-making session.
  • Assists with planning curricula with healthcare partner members and reports on participant engagement.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and workshops as required.
  • Assists in the upkeep and maintenance of the studio and supplies as needed.
  • Distributes and collects evaluation materials.
  • Must be available to complete volunteer orientations at three partner sites, which may include but are not limited to CORIs and health screenings.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.

Requirements  

  • BacheloBachelor's in art therapy, art education, or studio art, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience teaching and working with groups of children
  • Experience teaching art to diverse and inclusive populations
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, clear, and consistent communication – written and oral
  • Flexibility, patience, and self-motivation
  • Experience working in hospitals and healthcare settings is preferred
  • Must be available to work select Thursday mornings and 1 Friday afternoon per month
  • Availability on Saturday mornings is preferred

Compensation Range and Schedule:

  • Pay Range: $25/Hr
  • Half-Time Salary - 17.5 hours per week.
  • This position is affiliated with the United Auto Workers Union.

The Salary offered to a final candidate in good faith will depend on various factors, such as experience, education, specialized training, unique, relevant skills and abilities, internal equity, and other individual experiences and qualifications.
