What does the job involve?

Summary:To assist higher classified electrical and maintenance mechanics in the repair and maintenance of equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Ability to install and remove covers and inspections plates.
  • Adjust bearings, ways, belts, dismantle equipment, and store as directed.
  • Service, maintain guard rails, casters, and wheels.
  • Assembles parts into complete assemblies, such as building benches, parts, racks, perform fabricating operations on the equipment by cutting material to size, drilling holes and threading pipe as directed.
  • Assists in loading and unloading equipment by operating lift trucks.
  • Ability to properly dispose of waste.
  • Makes minor repairs on equipment and checks functionality after repair.
  • Assist Maintenance A and Maintenance General Mechanics in other fields incidental and necessary to the completion of an assigned task.
  • Performs rework, repair and other associated operations relating to the work described.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the above, Mechanics are to maintain an organized, clean and safe work area using safety standards and expectations while adhering to all quality practices. Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Degree or General Education Degree; or 1 year of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience Types:
  • Have knowledge of proper chemical handling, acid hazards and proper techniques for handling materials.
  • Experience with old manufacturing equipment and with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Understanding of power principles.

Required Skills:

  • Language:Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Ability:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities:Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, understand the use of check templates, and ability to tag and/ or arc weld.

Materials used:

  • Lathes, punch presses, milling machines, turret lathes, duplicating and profiling machines, planers, precision grinders, and their major accessories. Repair and replacement parts, abrasives, coolants, cutting oils, lubricants, and layout materials.
