Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe UN Human Security Unit’s overall goal is to (i) mainstream human security in the activities of the United Nations and (ii) extend the global awareness of the approach and its usage by the United Nations system, UN Member States, regional and sub-regional bodies and non-Governmental organizations. 1.2 While accomplishments have been numerous over the last two decades, the Unit and the UNTFHS are at a critical crossroad where every effort must be made to expand the global awareness and usage of human security, both within and outside of the United Nations. This is particularly important in view of the Secretary-General’s decision to issue his next Report on Human Security at the 78th session of the General Assembly. For this position, the individual contractor will: Work with the Chief of the HSU and the Resource Mobilization Officer to conduct research on effective resource mobilization strategies of UN Trust Funds as well as the current donor environment within the United Nations. Establish a new database to manage information related to resource mobilization including but not limited to budget cycles of priority donors, trends vis-à-vis major UN donors, trends related to key thematic issues and priority agendas for human security, and information related to monitoring engagement with prospective donors. Support the Chief and RMO in elaborating a targeted resource mobilization strategy for 2024-2025. Develop outreach materials targeted to each donor by searching innovative funding approaches and by running queries in the KMD. Assist in preparation of high-level Member State donor meetings including the organization of special events, field visits and other collaborative efforts with key partners including UN Permanent Missions, UN organizations, and relevant partners of interest to the respective donors with the aim to strengthen the success of Unit’s resource mobilization for the period of 2024-2025.
Qualifications/special SkillsA Bachelor’s degree in development policy, international relations, political science, history, social sciences, psychology or related field is required. For this position, up to 1 year of professional experience, inclusive of internships, is required. Experience in and knowledge of the application of the human security approach at the United Nations or within intergovernmental organizations, national governments and/or civil society organizations is required. Knowledge of key global agendas of relevance to human security is also required. Experience with the United Nations common system is desirable.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
