The U.S. Consumer Services and Enterprise Digital & Data Technology Team brings together foundational strategic technology capabilities in digital experience engineering (Mobile and Web), AI/ML, marketing technology, enterprise communications, travel and lifestyle, and automation, grounded in our data technology model that prioritizes data governance. It employs a ground-breaking focus with development responsibilities for customer-facing capabilities that deepen and expand digital engagement, as well as core technical capabilities that cut across business lines and customer segments.
  • One XP team is an experimentation platform which support A/B Testing, Canary Releases and Feature Flag capabilities. We are seeking to onboard an Engineer for One XP platform.
  • With One XP, you’ll have the ability to build technology products that shape the way that developers across American Express can setup and manage experiments and measure causal inference. We had an immense growth in terms of the number of onboarded experiments in 2021 and except that growth to continue/accelerate.
  • One XP is an inner source platform and framework, we welcome contributions from Engineers across American Express, as a platform One XP provides all the required tooling for developers to setup experiments, promote them between different environments (dev/test/prod), visualize data points captured for the experiment.
  • We are a distributed team with teammates across US time zones. We are at the fore front of inspiring change in terms of technology and culture across American Express.
As An Engineer On One XP Team, You Will
  • Build the infrastructure that allows for consistent and powerful causal inference across a highly scaled experimentation platform. You'll work directly with numerous teams across the company to improve Amex's rate of innovation though a better understanding of our users.
  • Work across product and engineering teams to design and architect software at the innovative of experimentation and inference. Understand our customer’s problems and balance their needs against methodological rigor to help move experimentation thinking forward at Amex.
  • Develop sophisticated libraries and tooling to enable accurate and highly scaled analysis of experiment results. Design and implement pioneering causal inference techniques and scale them across hundreds of experiments.
  • Participate in all phases of software development from architecture/design through implementation, testing, and on-call.
  • Work closely with Experimentation Data Science, Product and relevant engineering teams to solve challenging causal inference problems and build production grade implementations of those solutions.
  • Drive “Experimentation Culture” at Amex. Be a part of leveling up experimentation and causal inference culture at Amex.
How will you make an impact in this role?
  • Software Development
    • Perform technical aspects of software development for assigned applications including design, developing prototypes, and coding assignments
    • Function as a leader on an agile team by contributing to software builds through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation)
    • Lead design/code reviews and automated testing
    • Debug software components and identify code defects for remediation
    • Leads the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across test, integration, and production environments.
    • Empower teams to automate deployments in test or production environments
    • Empower teams to automatically scale applications based on demand projections
    • 70% of the time spent on coding and/ or hands-on technical implementation
    • Work with Enterprise Architecture, other Staff Engineers and Delivery teams to define solution requirements and
    • technical implementation approach
    • Drive both high-level and detailed technical designs and conduct design reviews as needed
    • Take initiative to identify and Implement new, highly scalable foundational components and libraries - Improve and maintain existing components of the core platform
    • Actively participate in team and company-wide architecture and engineering discussions and forums
    • Employ technical expertise to help team members overcome technical problems
    • Enforce to release/project schedule and sprint achievements
    • Analyze, design, program, debug, and modify software for use in local, networked, cloud-based or Internet-related
    • environments
    • Responsible for health and quality of the code across the portfolio, including leadership over SCM, functional testing, and
    • CI/CD tool integration
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related experience required; advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with Java or similar Object Oriented Programming Language in a professional environment required.
  • 3 years required with at least one other modern programming language such as Java, Scala, Python, or GO.
  • Hands-on expertise with application design, software development, and automated testing required.
  • Hands-on experience in development of highly scalable, dedication backend applications using a variety of technologies, with specific expertise in Enterprise Java (including advanced design pattern & common libraries) and cloud native technologies required.
  • Experience in building enterprise-grade APIs using pioneering techniques and best practices (GraphQL ,REST, JSON, XML, etc.) required.
  • Experience with relational databases, including designing complex schemas and queries required.
  • Experience developing within distributed systems or a microservice based architecture required.
  • Experience with Cloud Native system design required.
  • Familiarity with Containers and Container Orchestration tools such as Docker, Docker Swarm , Kubernetes required.
  • Familiarity with Data Centric application design, Event Driven Systems, Kafka, Big Data ecosystem, Data pipelines, Stream processing systems etc. is required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for documenting workflows, tools, or complex areas of a codebase.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and multi-task efficiently.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Validated experience leading teams of engineers
  • Experience using database systems like MongoDB, Couchbase, Cassandra, Redis etc. in a dedication and resilient configurations is a plus.
  • Hands-on coding experience in One Amex suite of platforms and products, especially One App and One Data is a plus.
  • Experience working with Public Clouds (AWS,GCP, Azure) is a plus.
Salary Range: $85,000.00 to $150,000.00 annually bonus benefits
