The Staff Scientist, Quality Control is responsible for working within the QC department to use standard operating procedures, and good manufacturing practices to support the testing of routine and non-routine analysis of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products. This position supports all QC teams by mentoring staff, leading improvement initiatives, performing investigations, and working on short and long term department projects.
A Day In The Life
  • Owns and leads product and process improvement projects within area of influence - from project concept and initiation, to execution, and completion
  • Identifies process or procedural gaps within QC processes and leads mechanisms or projects to ensure improvements
  • Mentor junior staff within QC on related site processes, procedures, testing methodologies, and product information with a focus on compliance, and a right first time culture.
  • Provide troubleshooting coaching and advice when needed during routine and non-routine product analysis
  • Oversee general QC Laboratory processes and maintenance to ensure the QC Laboratory is being maintained in a compliant and expected manner
  • Represent QC on cross-functional site projects, new product development, and at Core Team meetings
  • Initiates and performs investigations as part of IRs, CAPAs, Deviations, OOS, customer complaints, and SCARs
  • Actively communicate and lead QC Supervisors and Managers on Practical Process Improvements (PPI) projects within QC that may benefit lab culture and productivity, and improve product testing methodologies
  • Monitor and trend quality data; ensure periodic multi-functional reviews, of quality metrics and implement corrective actions against adverse trends and non-conformances.
  • Revises and updates SOPs, while managing through the change control process
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Keys To SuccessEducation
  • A BS/BA in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Bioscience is required.
Experience
  • 6 years of experience in Quality Control/Assurance experience, preferably in the medical diagnostics industry.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of cGMP and how it applies to the work environment
  • High level of reading comprehension skills
  • Ability to follow and provide written and verbal directions with a high level of accuracy
  • Must be able to write clear, and understandable complex documentation
  • High level of verbal communication skills, and the ability to excel in a matrixed environment
  • Advanced word processing and data analysis skills
  • Strong organizational skills to be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Skilled at analyzing data and summarizing results applying basic statistics skills, including regression and correlation
  • Experience in leading change within teams from start to finish
  • Demonstrated ability for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, problem solving skills, and collaboration with other departments
  • Experience in preparing documents including SOPs, specification sheets and worksheets
  • Experience in manufacturing, product transfer or product support functions.
  • Project management and leadership skills
  • Ability to analyze large sets of data through statistical analysis

Compensation And BenefitsThe salary range estimated for this position based in California is $112,500.00-$168,750.00.
