**Overview**

SUPERVISION: This position reports to the Director of Education and has no direct reports.

POSITION PHILOSOPHY: To exhibit a level of professionalism and confidentiality in maintaining accurate compliant records of all students.

**Responsibilities**

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS LISTED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Provide leadership, vision, direction, supervision and expertise in compliance with the IEP process.

2. Attend and Lead IEP meetings.

3. Assist in planning and development of IEP.

4. Maintains database of student IEP and evaluation dates.

5. Analyze student data and progress on IEP goals.

6. Coordinate the admission review and dismissal/discharge of student with regards to educational documents for each student.

7. Participates in classroom placement decisions based on educational, social, and behavioral data presented.

Competency IV: Professionalism

1. Maintains acceptable attendance by working scheduled hours per school calendar; reporting to work on time; complying with education department policies/guidelines for use of Paid Time Off (scheduled/unscheduled); making an effort to find coverage for scheduled absences; submitting for prior approval any changes in work schedule to immediate supervisor; working beyond the regular schedule if necessary, to complete educational goals.

2. Maintains valid teaching license in accordance with Indiana Department of Education requirements.

3. Acts as a mandated reporter. Immediately reports any suspected student abuse, whether physical, sexual or Regular Driver Status:

This position requires that in order to successfully complete the essential functions of this role the incumbent must: 1) possess an active regular drivers license in the state of residence, 2) maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by the Company, and 3) be able to travel to specific locations as is needed for the completion of job duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

A. Physical Requirements:

1. Must be able to implement agency-approved physical intervention techniques as trained by T.C. Harris with the ability to manage students up to 150 pounds frequently and in excess of 200 pounds occasionally.

2. Bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, walking, standing, running, squatting, and bilateral manual dexterity to perform as described above. This requires you to be able to go from a standing, knelling or crouching position into a sitting position without assistance while possibly restraining a student.

3. Ability to supervise, monitor and effectively communicate with students in a variety of communication styles and abilities.

**Qualifications**

POSITION: Student Support Specialist DIVISION OF PERSONNEL: Exempt (Salaried)

UNIT: Main Building, Academy & Group Homes DEPARTMENT: Education

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree (required). Must have a teaching licensed by the State of Indiana. A license in special education covering all grade levels is preferred. Experience with writing compliant Individual Education Plans utilizing state standards and content connectors. Ability to lead case conferences. Must have knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines and Article 7. Experience with DOE graduation pathways and the requirements for graduation.
