Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is Hiring a Business Retention & Development Coordinator Near Myrtle, SC

Job DescriptionSUMMARY OF POSITIONThe Business Retention and Development Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing a program designed to retain entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Grand Strand area. The Public Policy Coordinator uses extensive discretion and independent judgement as well as a consultative approach to managing the role’s primary duties and responsibilities.
Primary Job Responsibilities And Functions
  • Create a small business retention and expansion program to include:
    • Conduct small business retention and expansion interviews;
    • Conduct onsite personal interview with business and property owners to assess business concerns and opportunities;
    • Manage the Community Advisory Committee for the small business sector of PGS (Prosperity Pillar);
    • Develop a process for sustained, regular communication with all small business and entrepreneurial contacts;
    • Document and maintain results of business visits and implement resulting action items;
    • Identify development obstacles, growth/expansion opportunities;
    • Participate in the creation and execution of initiatives designed to meet the needs of the Grand Strand small businesses (education, workshops, incubator and accelerator programs);
    • Act as liaison between business and local solution-orientated resources such as business incentive programs, opportunity zones, tax incentives, financial services, technology assistance, local and county government resources, etc.
  • Align business retention activities with priority target industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, technology, healthcare and professional services.
  • Conduct resources and compile information for numerous sources on local business activity, expansion plans and potential start-up operations.
  • Develop and distribute relevant information to the small business community, including industry data provided by regional and state partners such as SC Dept of Commerce, Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Corporation (MBREDC) and Northeastern Strategic Alliance (NESA to include:
    • Make presentations to individual businesses, groups and associations on available services and assistance programs; recommend resources and networking connections with local industry partners;
    • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of programs and resources available to small businesses;
    • Assist small businesses with pursuing business assistance programs, where applicable; promote and provide information on City of Myrtle Beach and State of South Carolina business assistance and loan programs to include the Opportunity Zone.
  • Coordinate with Business Retention and Development Manager on workforce development needs for small businesses and entrepreneurs to include:
    • Sponsor and host events and projects in partnership with eMYRge and other groups to grow the entrepreneurial ecosystem, such as Techstars Start Up weekend and Entrepreneur Pitch Nights;
    • Encourage the creation of more coworking and collaborative space for entrepreneurs, small business, and startups;
    • Support the creation of more workshops with local experts by partnering with eMYRge, Myrtle Beach Area Small Business Development Council, SCORE, higher education institutions and other partners.
  • Other duties as assigned by Business Retention and Development Manager as deemed necessary to support Partnership Grand Strand ad
Critical Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree with an accredited college university in a related field and experience preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in economic development, business assistance or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Knowledge of economic development processes and practices in the areas of business development, economic development, and business administration.
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment and make decisions necessary to achieve success in assigned areas.
  • Strong planning, analytic and project management skills.
  • Self-motivated, high energy, and organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communications skills, including strong writing and verbal skills.
  • Proficient in public presentations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, and intermediate mastery of Microsoft Excel.
  • Working knowledge of a CRM system; training will be made available.
  • Grand Strand residency preferred.
  • Bilingual ability preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORNMENT
  • Frequent periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer using eye-hand coordination.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at a time.
  • Travel to clients in a motor vehicle for visits on frequent basis in changing climate conditions.
