Position Summary
The Social Worker will assist patients, families, and significant others in coping with the psychosocial aspects of illness and its treatment. A psychosocial assessment will evaluate social, psychosocial, emotional, financial, and environmental needs of patients. This position works closely with Utilization Review staff for discharge planning and psychosocial needs of patients..
Position Duties (Not all Inclusive)

• Serves as a public liaison with various community services.
• Responsible for establishing rapport and maintaining an effective system of communication with other departments within the hospital and medical staff.
• Responsible for the interrelationships formed between departments within the hospital and Contact with supporting agencies are to be formed initially by this individual and support of same sustained by this individual
• Perform social work activities for Cecil R. Bomar Rehabilitation Center as well as in the acute setting.
• Supervise social work interns placed at Memorial Hospital

a. Provide weekly MSW supervision to social work students.
b. Coordinate and interview student interns prior to placement with the hospital
c. Liaison to Stephen F. Austin State University in placing social work interns.

• Participated in interdisciplinary committees as requested to represent social services.
• Educate other employees of the hospital as to the scope of social services and in doing so provide professional growth in other departments.
• Assess patients and families to determine overall needs, then addresses these needs with immediate and positive action, i.e., medication assistance, transportation, community resources.

Qualifications

• Required : Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Required : Master's Degree in Social Work from a School of Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
• Required : Must be Licensed through the State of Texas.
• Preferred : experience in a medical setting.
• Required : Maintain ongoing continuing education units.
