They work outside the operating rooms sterile field by ensuring a clean and sterile environment, prepping for operations, recording surgery proceedings, monitoring surgical staff and tools and managing the delivery of samples and specimens. Position Duties (not all inclusive)
Acting as an advocate for the patient before, during and after surgery
Monitoring and recording the patient's vitals pre-operation.
Preparing the surgical tools and materials that the surgical team will need during the operation.
Recording every aspect of an operation, including the names and titles of those performing the surgery, the tools used, the amount of anesthetic a patient received and how long the surgery took.
Advising the surgical team on potential harm to the patient during surgery
Assisting surgeons during the surgery if needed
Escorting patients to the recovery room post-operation
Cleaning the operating room post-operation
