The Opportunity - Mental Health Skills Trainer (Part-time, Temporary)
NAMI Seattle is seeking a dedicated and passionate Part-Time Mental Health Skills Trainer to join our team. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering specialized training sessions tailored for businesses operating within the commercial districts of Seattle. These sessions are designed to equip staff and managers with essential knowledge and skills to effectively handle situations involving individuals experiencing serious mental health crises on their premises.
This part-time position offers 20 hours per week for a temporary period of 6 months, providing a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the well-being of individuals and communities in Seattle while contributing to the overall mission of NAMI Seattle. Responsibilities:
1. Conduct outreach efforts to businesses within Seattle's commercial districts to promote and schedule mental health literacy and skill building training sessions.
2. Deliver engaging and informative training sessions focused on mental health awareness, de-escalation techniques, and self-care strategies tailored to the needs of business staff and managers.
3. Collaborate with NAMI Seattle's training team to continuously refine and improve training materials and delivery methods.
4. Provide support and resources to businesses, including information and referral to mental health services and assistance in connecting individuals in crisis with appropriate help.
5. Build and maintain positive relationships with businesses, community organizations, and other stakeholders to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals with mental health conditions.
6. Collect and analyze data to measure the impact and effectiveness of training programs, and make recommendations for improvements.
7. Stay informed about developments in the field of mental health and crisis intervention, and local behavioral health resources and incorporate relevant information into training sessions as needed.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 1 year of experience in community outreach or health education
2. Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, human services, or a related field preferred.
3. Prior experience in mental health training, crisis intervention, health education or related fields.
4. Strong presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
7. Familiarity with the local community and resources for mental health support services in the Seattle area is a plus.
8. Commitment to NAMI Seattle's mission of promoting mental health awareness and support in the community.
