Nammo Defense Systems is Hiring an Internal Opportunity* Analytical Lab Lead Technician Near Mesa, AZ

Nammo Defense Systems, Inc., a defense contractor, is the primary USA operation of the Nammo Group (Nammo AS). Nammo Defense Systems Inc. (NDS) develops, manufactures, and supports Shoulder Launched Munitions (SLMs), energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aerospace structures.
We are currently seeking an Analytical Lab Lead Technician to join our team.
The Lead Technician oversees day-to-day operations, execution of chemical and energetic material testing, and experimentation in the Research laboratory. This Lead Technician ensures adherence to quality standards and safety protocols. The Lead Technician will coordinate with management to ensure efficient lab workflow. The Lead Technician is the subject matter expert for their area and ensures proper training has been administered to all personnel working in the wet lab. The Lead Technician reports to the Manager of Research Operations.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of wet lab technicians by providing guidance, training, and support to optimize performance and productivity
  • Ensure that laboratory procedures are adequate and accurate, identify gaps, and collaborate with Chemists/Scientists to improve documentation
  • Identify the need for and champion pursuing external and internal training for self and team to develop technical competencies
  • Plan and organize laboratory workflow to support production
  • Perform complex wet lab procedures
  • Be an expert in the use and management of laboratory analytical equipment: Maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and coordinate repairs and maintenance as needed to ensure proper functionality
  • Manage inventory of lab supplies, reagents, and chemicals as needed for the lab to operate efficiently
  • Collaborate with Research Scientists, managers, and engineers to design experiments and interpret results
  • Conduct training and work with management to maintain department training logs
  • Ensure proper procedures are available prior to starting tasks
  • Enforce laboratory safety protocols, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, to ensure a safe working environment
  • Lead by example, wearing all required PPE and ensure employees follow all safety procedures.
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture by documenting and implementing improvement ideas
  • Enforce company policies and procedures
  • Monitor the performance and development of department employees and provide supervision with documentation of positive and negative behaviors
  • Generate maintenance work orders as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Working ConditionsMust be able to work in indoor and outdoor environments. Must have the manual dexterity of hands and body to operate office equipment, motor vehicles, hiking/walking in varied terrain outdoors. Must be able to manage frequent interruptions, high work volumes, multiple tasks, team-oriented activities and prompt decision-making. Must constantly maintain concentration, accuracy, ethical behavior, and a professional demeanor. Must be able to file and lift/carry/push and/or pull 50 lbs. Must be able to sit for long periods of time and operate a desktop/laptop computer.
Job Qualifications: (Education/Skills/Experience):
  • Minimum: Associates degree in a related field or eight-plus years of related experience
  • Proven experience in motivation and training of subordinates and developing skills
  • Ability to solve problems and provide input for performance reviews
  • Ability to assist in the interviewing process for new hires
  • Capacity to read and interpret procedures accurately and to provide related guidance to subordinates, as required
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business documents and technical procedures or government regulations
  • Ability to write lab reports and perform basic statistical analysis
  • Effectively present information to peers and respond to questions from others, including the management team and customers
  • Punctuality is a must! Ability to be at work on time and lead as an example to subordinates
  • The ability to support management through leadership of others and provide a positive example to peers.
  • Ability to work overtime as required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) preferred
