Job Description: Position Summary: The Seasonal Summer Educator will assist with summer events and outdoor programming at the Audubon Center at Riverlands and Little Creek Nature Area. They are an essential team member that supports planning and presenting quality programming to children and adults. They will also be responsible for maintaining positive relationships with staff, volunteers, program participants, teachers, partners and community members. Key programs include Flight Crew, a paid summer internship for high school students, which entails exposure to environmental careers and facilitation of outdoor education programs for youth. Little Creek Summer Camp, a summer camp program for 3rd -5th grade students in the Ferguson-Florissant School District. Little Creek Summer Camp is mainly outdoors and is where campers develop outdoor skills through activities like archery, birding, campfire cooking, canoeing, nature hikes, and more. This position will also help to ensure intern and camper safety while working outdoors in the summer months. They will also support Field Day Fridays and similar programming at the Audubon Center Riverlands. Compensation: $17.0-$18.00 / hour Additional Job Description Essential Functions Provide daily program support in a team setting and at times work independently. Participate in and attend scheduled training. Learn and follow program safety protocols. Assist in facilitating a variety of summer programs for children and adults. Facilitate leadership and team building activities with campers and interns. Perform other duties as assigned. Assist in managing small groups of campers and facilitating programs and activities. Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities. Assist in planning and implementing the Friday Little Creek Summer Camp field trips. Serve as a positive role model for all interns and campers. Show a genuine interest in interns and campers. Encourage their success. Enhance their summer experience. Ensure that campers are safe and included. Encourage respect for the camp, supplies, and equipment. Partner with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work. Other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in education, biology or related field field. 0-2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. Enjoy working with kids. Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of conditions and temperatures. Ability to work as a team member and leader. Ability to stay positive and encouraging to campers and interns who may be apprehensive or nervous about a particular activity. Must have physical ability to lead and participate in activities, which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, team building initiatives, building campfires, physical games, and activities, with or without accommodation. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs, and ability to traverse uneven terrain carrying spotting scope, binoculars, program supplies, and daypack, with or without accommodation. Must be reliable, punctual, and organized. Maintain a positive, focused, and enthusiastic attitude. Must be able to provide own transportation to Little Creek Nature Area and The Audubon Center at Riverlands.
