Summary: Join our team at the National Defense University Foundation Store! We're looking for a friendly Gift Shop Manager to provide exceptional customer service in our store. You’ll engage with diverse clientele from around the world while supporting the National Defense University. This position offers a flexible schedule with no holidays or weekends. The Manager is responsible for maintaining and operating all gift shop related functions under the guidance of the CEO and President. Responsibilities include completing Point of Sale reports, maintaining & tracking inventory requests, monthly inventory counts, placing orders of merchandise, performing market research for new items, and implementing sale campaigns . Of note, Gift Shop Manager working at the gift shop may be the first exposure a student, faculty or guest has had to the NDUF. Engaging positively presents an opportunity to promote the Foundation and to be of service to NDU.

Responsibilities

• Open and close the gift shop Monday-Thursday (10 AM- 2 PM)
• Operate cash register and manage inventory
• Produce financial reports
• Pick up mail
• Make bank runs
• Place product orders based on student needs
• Maintain store appearance and cleanliness
• Provide excellent customer service to NDU staff, students, and military members
• Relay information to the NDU Foundation team
• Promote university and foundation initiatives
• Help with NDU Foundation events
• Ability to travel for 3 days per year for pop-up shops in Norfolk at the Joint Forces Staff College

Requirements:

• 2-3 years prior retail management experience in a clothing or gift shop
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 and Adobe
• Familiarity with Square POS system and Canva is a plus
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Must be familiar or comfortable with military and/or government agencies, and with service members and families, and foreign military and families
• Associates degree preferred
• Must have reliable transportation

Compensation: $20-25 per hour depending on experience
