Environmental Protection Agency (EPA–SEE)

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55 ) with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Environmental Protection Agency through the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program.

Duties:

Provide technical and programmatic support to EPA's Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) and RCRA Programs within EPA Region 8.

• Conduct semiannual groundwater sampling at Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Sites in Indian Country in Region 8, following all require field qu. 40%
• Review site assessment and remedial action reports and provide comments and recommendations for LUST sites and Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) sites. 30%
• Analyze data and create maps using data from LUST sampling events. Write reports describing and interpreting the data. 30%

Qualifications:

Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience OR BA/BS Degree in Environmental Studies, Geology, Earth Sciences, or Mining OR Previously completed training in Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Remediation

• Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Copying Machine
• Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Other:

• OSHA 24/40 hours Health and Safety Training OSHA 8 hour Health and Safety Training (annually, after initial training), CPR and First Aid Training (annually and every two years, respectively) Computer training courses; available on an as needed basis GPS Training
• Travel Requirements: Travel to LUST sites in Indian Country across Region 8 is required to collected groundwater samples and participate in other remedial activities and oversight. These sites are remote, requiring air travel and driving. Travel will be limited to weekdays
• Overnight travel: Approx. 6 trips per year, each one 4-5 days
• Air travel anticipated: Approx. 6 trips per year, each one 4-5 days
• Rental cars: Approx. 1 trip per year may require that this person rent a car. Other times, EPA staff will be accompanying this person and they will rent a car.
• Health Safety Training: Employee will be required to take the 40 hour safety course from a local contractor; and will take the refresher course annually with EPA.
• Health and Safety Considerations: Specific field training will be provided by EPA field personnel.
• Fieldwork will involve working around heavy equipment and vehicles, and will involve sampling media that may contain petroleum, BTEX, and other hazardous constituents
