Research MRI Technologist
The National Institutes of Health located 5 miles outside the Nation’s Capital in Bethesda, Maryland, is the largest biomedical research agency in the world and maintains nation-wide responsibility for improving the health and well-being of all Americans and is recognized for providing excellent clinical care. The Clinical Center, the research hospital for the NIH, is the world’s largest hospital devoted exclusively to clinical investigation.
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), Laboratory of Imaging Technology seeks a full-time MRI Technologist for clinical and research MRI. The program develops novel imaging technology for cardiac and pulmonary imaging using Siemens new mid-field MRI systems, develops real-time MRI guided interventional procedures and collaborates with other clinical imaging teams.
The technologist will be responsible for the comprehensive management and operation of the MRI scanner facility, for clinical, pre-clinical and research applications. The candidate must have knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to MRI exams, concepts, standards, procedures and equipment. Duties include scheduling, interviewing and screening patients for MRI safety, positioning, obtaining intravenous access, and acquiring MRI scans with little or no supervision, archiving studies, making extensive off-line measurements, quality assurance, maintaining supplies, MR safety training, documentation, and instruction of staff on operation of MR. Strong candidates would have familiarity with the Siemens MRI platform and experience in cardiac MR. The technologist will actively participate in the evaluation of new MRI imaging methods.
Requirements:
• Education: 1. high school diploma or equivalent. 2. Completion of an accredited Radiology program.
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment and under pressure. Must work well independently, as well as part of a multi-disciplinary research team.
• Certification/Licensure: National registration with the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (AART). Must maintain current registry requirements through work experience and continuing education.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Minimum of one year of experience in MRI
• Familiarity with Siemens platform is preferred.
• Experience in cardiac MRI and/or pulmonary MRI is preferred.
The successful candidate should have a strong track record of achievement, expertise and experience in MR imaging. Salary is commensurate with clinical experience.
