Organization Overview:

The National Institute for Children’s Health Quality (NICHQ) is an independent nonprofit organization working for more than a decade to improve children’s health. Position Overview:

The Principal Analyst draws upon a strong track record of expertise in clinical research, informatics, and evaluation to lead and manage clinical research-focused maternal child health projects at NICHQ. The Principal Analyst supervises staff in NICHQ’s Department of Applied Research and Evaluation (DARE), collaborates with relevant staff in NICHQ’s Programs and Health Equity Innovation departments, and liaises with expert faculty members, funders, and other project partners. The Principal Analyst plays an integral and leadership role in NICHQ’s Applied Research and Evaluation team, utilizing quantitative and qualitative research skills, applying informatics and data management expertise, mentoring junior staff, collaborating with senior leaders in the department, and supporting business development opportunities in research and evaluation. This role involves oversight and support for harmonizing large data sets of genetic and clinical data from several cohorts of formerly premature children who were enrolled in prospective studies, have existing genome-wide data or DNA samples and are being followed at school-age and beyond. Key activities for this position include management of staff to assist in developing combined datasets of clinical and genomic data, implementing data management strategies, and using advanced analytical techniques to generate project insights.

Salary : $100,000-$105,000 annual salary

Responsibilities :

  • May serve as project director for clinical research initiatives
  • Possesses advanced insight and skills in client management
  • Oversees implementation of research and evaluation activities
  • Manages reporting and analytics for projects
  • Directs primary data collection efforts for projects
  • Designs and leads execution of applied research/evaluation project activities across all phases of project lifespan.
  • Supervises and supports the development of individuals working in applied research and evaluation
  • Demonstrates subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas: public health, informatics, and/or biostatistics.
  • Contributes to cross project sharing, learning and consistent integration of organizational support functions (e.g., programs, evaluation, communications)
  • Drives development of research/evaluation plan and data collection and management instruments
  • Responsible for securing human subjects’ approval
  • Based on project needs and area of expertise, provides consultation to other projects on statistical analysis techniques (e.g., sampling, random assignment, application scoring and weighting) or qualitative research techniques (e.g., focus groups, content analysis, ethnography)
  • Oversees development of written summaries in multiple formats using statistical, narrative and graphic components as appropriate
  • Leads development of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication
  • Contributes to organizational work with NICHQ and partners nationwide to build organizational capacity, innovative methods, and technical assistance approaches regarding data and/or data systems for improvement science and collaborative innovation in child health.

Qualifications :

  • Doctoral or master’s degree in relevant field (e.g. public health, health informatics, biostatistics and epidemiology; at least 5 years’ work experience in a health services, social science, or clinical research setting conducting health research and data analysis); and at least 2 years of experience with people management
  • Expertise in overseeing and conducting all phases of research projects (planning, implementation, analysis, dissemination); experience with NIH-funded clinical research preferred.
  • Superb computer skills including Microsoft Office products and database management; adept at quickly learning new technologies
  • Expert quantitative and/or qualitative research skills
  • Expertise in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS) and qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Dedoose, MAXQDA)
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with varied partners
  • Capability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with flexible and changing circumstances
  • Demonstrated experience managing and supporting junior staff
  • Excellent communications skills including oral and written presentation and facilitation
  • Creative, strategic thinker who optimizes systems and resources
  • Ability to quickly implement plans/structure for accomplishing work
