Director of Human Resources
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: The Director of Human Resources is responsible for managing the College’s Human Resources department and ensuring that HR strategies support the institution’s educational mission and goals. This role involves overseeing all aspects of HR, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, training, and compliance with labor laws, while focusing on the unique needs of a higher education environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the HR team, providing guidance, support, and opportunities for professional growth
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment within the college community
  • Develop and implement HR strategies that align with the college’s mission, goals, and strategic plan
  • Collaborate with college leadership to forecast HR needs and develop workforce plans to support academic and operational goals
  • Oversee the recruitment process, ensuring the college attracts and retains qualified faculty and staff
  • Develop and maintain effective onboarding programs tailored to the needs of academic and administrative personnel
  • Promote positive employee relations and address faculty and staff grievances and disputes
  • Implement programs and measure success that improve employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention
  • Develop and oversee performance appraisal systems to ensure fair and effective evaluations for faculty and staff
  • Provide guidance on performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions
  • Design and manage competitive compensation and benefits programs that attract and retain highly qualified faculty and staff
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal and state laws and regulations, including those specific to state agencies and educational institutions in Arkansas
  • Identify training needs and oversee the development and implementation of professional development programs for faculty and staff
  • Support leadership development and succession planning initiatives within the College
  • Manage HR-related risk and maintain a safe working environment, including adherence to Title IX and other educational compliance requirements
  • Develop and monitor the effectiveness of HR strategies and programs
  • Prepare and present reports to college leadership and the board of trustees as required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Occasional travel may be required for meetings, training, and conferences
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 10 years of experience in HR, with at least five years in a leadership role, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is highly desirable
  • In-depth knowledge of labor laws and HR best practices
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing HR strategies
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity
  • Aptitude with a variety of computer software, database management, employee management software applications and proficiency in common office desktop software and collaborative cloud platforms; Paycor and PeopleSoft experience is preferred
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
