Duties
  • Performs standard, previously done welding operations using a variety of sub journey level electrical resistance welding methods and equipment, including manual welding processes.
  • Performs routine maintenance, modifications, preventive maintenance, and adjustments on utility systems, buildings, equipment and grounds, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations of plumbing, electrical, and other related trades including the processes of water and wastewater treatment.
  • Operates a light truck and trailer to pick up supplies and transport materials to and from work sites while performing project work. Operates a forklift and other light maintenance equipment.
  • Operates a government owned boat on the lake and river in order to access utility facilities and other points of concern to service, repair and maintain these utility components.
  • May perform janitorial duties, cleaning and stocking restrooms, vault toilets, visitor centers and park offices as determined by staffing levels. May pick up litter in parking areas, trail heads, and along park roads.

  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You must obtain and maintain a current Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement within 12 months from Entry-On-Duty.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Occupancy of government quarters is required.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You must be able to secure and maintain a valid Department of Health Services Level 1 Water Treatment Operators Certificate within 12 months from Entry-On-Duty. Please indicate the level of certification you currently possess.
  • You must be able to secure and maintain a valid Department of Health Services Level 1 Wastewater Treatment Operators and Backflow Certificate. Please indicate the level of certification you currently possess.
  • You must be able to obtain a Department of Interior Motorboat Operator Certificate within 12 months from Entry-On-Duty.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 4 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
QualificationsSelective Placement - The existence of Moto Vehicle Operator duties requires a valid Driver's License. Provide a copy of your Driver's License and/or provide license information in your application/resume. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to Entry-On-Duty. Failure to provide verification of license will result in your application receiving no further consideration. (Screen-Out)To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  • Use of Measuring Instruments
If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. In preparing your application, describe in detail the experience and training which you have had that specifically prepared you for this job and to perform the duties described for this job. Examples of experience are: (1) Troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, overhaul, testing, calibrate and installation of a variety of multi-component industrial and precision instruments and equipment. (2) Provided maintenance and repair of utility facilities above and below ground. (3) Use of at least TWO of the following trade practices: welding, plumbing, electrical, utility systems, motor vehicle operator and other related trades including the processes of water and wastewater treatment, without more than normal supervision. Experience should be clearly described and documented in your resume. The qualifications reviewer will not assume performance of such duties by Job Titles alone. Address your knowledge, skills and/or abilities in the areas shown in the job-related factors.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50-100 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions.
Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90 degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects. The incumbent's clothing may become soiled fromĀ· grease, dust, and chemicals.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are NOT suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
