The incumbent will work closely with visitors, providing basic information and answering questions, solving complaints and resolving conflicts. This position operates electronic cash registers, credit card machines, computers, mail machines, and word processing software.
In addition, the incumbent may perform the following duties:
  • Assist in the orientation, mentoring, and training of new employees, volunteers, and/or interns in fee collection, remittance, and/or deposits.
  • Troubleshoot issues with fee program related technologies and equipment that include hardware, software, and peripheral devices such as hand-held devices, computers, point-of-sale (POS) equipment, registers, tablets, mobile phones, scanning devices, automated fee machines (AFMs), and reservation systems.
  • Research and resolve a variety of non-routine problems with reservations made through automated reservation systems that include but are not limited to Recreation.gov and other, automated or manual management platforms. Process reservation arrivals and departures; create, modify, or cancel reservations; monitor inventory, and reservable versus first-come, first-served availability.
  • Resolve complaints and conflicts and refer issues to a supervisor or higher graded employee when necessary.
  • Transport recreation fee revenue and/or donations collected from one or more fee collection locations such as entrance stations, visitor centers, donation collection stations and campgrounds to the central remit office or other authorized location. Ensure proper security, internal controls, and accountability of funds during transport.
Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, or emergency response duties.
Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station.
