This position is contingent working at least 8hrs per week, Evening Shift/3pm-11pm

Respiratory Therapist Assistant 1 positions: Currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Care program 

Summary:THERE ARE TWO LEVELS OF RESPIRATORY CARE ASSISTANT1. Limited Permit holdersa. Student Permitb. Is enrolled in and is in good standing in a respiratory care educational program approved by the boardthat meets the requirements of division (A)(2) of section 4761.04 of the Revised Code leading to a degreeor certificate of completion or is a graduate of the program;c. See “Verification of Education Form” from Ohio Respiratory Care Board2. Respiratory Care Student Program enrollees, Non-permit holdersGENERAL DESCRIPTIONResponsible for performing respiratory care therapies as allowed by the Limited Permit and equipmentsetup, under the direction and supervision of a Respiratory Care Professional (RCP).Demonstrates competence as defined (*) in Respiratory Care Assistant responsibilities in providing ageappropriatecare and service to patients from the age of birth to 21 years, and selected adult patients.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews the patient chart for current respiratory care orders. Reviews other patient data (e.g., PFT’s,ABG’s, and history) to ensure appropriate planning and administration of ordered therapy.2. Assesses the patient’s cardio-respiratory status using techniques such as inspection, auscultation, labvalues and X-rays to aide in the delivery of ordered therapy.3. Assesses and documents the effectiveness of ordered respiratory care treatments. Monitors responsesto therapy using clinical parameters such as HR, RR, color, WOB, and LOC.4. Works closely with physicians and other health care team members. Recommends alternative modes oftherapy when applicable.5. Administers IPPB, PD&P, aerosol therapy, pulse oximetry, peak flows, oxygen, humidification therapyand other airway clearance devices. Delivers medications primarily by the aerosol route. Accuratelydocuments all therapy performed.6. Sets up, calibrates, and troubleshoots ventilators and O2 delivery devices. Assists in the cleaning andprocessing of equipment.7. Responds appropriately to all codes and traumas. Performs tasks within scope of practice (e.g., CPR, Cspineimmobilization).8. Responsible for the order entry and billing of services on the hospital computer system.9. Assists in arrangements for home care patients to include patient/parent teaching, review of equipment,and cleaning techniques.10. Accepts verbal orders from physicians that pertain to Respiratory Care and/or Patient Care Servicespolicies and procedures in accordance with the verbal order policy of the Patient Care ServicesDepartment.11. Provides age-appropriate basic and intermediate care to patients of all ages (neonates to adults).12. Fulfills annual continuing education requirements for state licensure.13. Performs other related duties as assigned.14. Respiratory therapists are authorized to access the unit medication rooms or bedside medicationdrawers in order to retrieve medications they are authorized to administer.
  • Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED1. High school graduate or equivalent.2. Effective communication and interpersonal skills required in interactions with patients and parents, andhospital staff.3. Ability to work under general supervision.4. Meets one of the following criteria:

    • Enrolled and in good standing in a respiratory care educational program5. Any patient care activities can only be done by those who are Limited Permit Holders in the state of Ohio.6. Must possess and maintain current CPR card, and obtain and maintain PALS and/or NRP certification asrequired by unit.MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSTyping on computer Constantly (67-100%)Using phone Frequently (34-66%)Sitting Frequently (34-66%)Standing Occasionally (0-33%)Lifting Occasionally (0-33%)Walking Frequently (34-66%)Must be able to see, hear, speak, read, and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation and carefor oneself with little or no difficulty. Must be able to apply the principles of body mechanics in lifting ormoving patients and/or equipment. Must be able to independently lift up to 50 pounds.
