Natives of Kodiak Incorporated is Hiring a Geologist- Shalimar, FL Near First Assessment, MN

Environmental Assessment Services LLC (EAS) is currently looking for an experienced Geologist to support our projects at Elgin AFB in Shalimar, FL. This is a on-call, hourly position with varying hours up to 40 hours per week. It will be hybrid with up to 25% onsite visits to Elgin AFB.

  • The target U.S. pay range for this position is between $56,919 to $71,000 and will be based on factors such as experience, education, relevant certifications, and location of the employee.
Essential Functions
  • Experience in environmental services or remediation with an emphasis on planning and executing field investigations and associated reporting.
  • Support Program and Project Managers in scoping, execution, and reporting of field projects.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental compliance with federal regulations (CERCLA, CAA, CWA, SDWA, RCRA (subtitles C, D, X) and/or state regulations (Florida Department of Environmental Protection).
  • Serve as lead author of environmental monitoring reports, and associated work plans. While working on reports, the employee can work remotely.
  • Conduct sampling events by assisting in development of technical approach and coordinating sampling equipment needs by contacting the appropriate suppliers/vendors.
  • Conduct appropriate field sampling calibrations. Fill out appropriate calibration forms.
  • Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, porewater, sediment, air, or waste stream samples for laboratory analysis. Fill out appropriate sampling forms, and chain-of-custodies.
  • Conduct sample management duties by coordinating bottleware needs with associated laboratory; packing and sealing sample coolers for sample transport; and dropping off samples to a local courier.
  • Provide oversight of subcontractors (e.g., drillers; land surveyor).
  • Provide oversight of a drill rig for the installation of soil borings; monitoring wells; and temporary groundwater sampling points. Describe the lithology of soils using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Fill out appropriate soil boring and well construction logs.
  • Serve as peer/technical reviewer for internal and external documents to ensure quality.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team to meet project deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Geology, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline.
Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening upon the start of employment.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Ability to be onsite at least 25% of the time when field work is required.
Desired Qualifications
  • 3 years of environmental/geological experience.
  • Current OSHA 40-hour training for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and current OSHA 8 hour Refresher HAZWOPER training.
  • Experience with low-flow sampling using a peristaltic pump.
  • Experience groundwater sampling in the State of FL (desired, not required).
  • Experience working on military installations.
  • Experience working with state and federal agencies.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships with clients, internal staff/departments, and outside agencies.
  • Flexible to adapt to evolving project requirements and client requests.
