Director Carbon Capture Operations

Summary of Position:

The Director Carbon Capture Operations will be responsible for overseeing and managing the development, engineering, and operation of the Company's carbon capture operations and will work with multi-disciplinary teams, including Business Development, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, and Operations. (Some internal to NTEC and some external through JV with Enchant.)

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for carbon capture aligned with organizational goals.
  • Manage and coordinate carbon capture projects from inception to completion, providing leadership to project governance process as approved by the company.
  • Manage permitting obligations associated with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and oversee third-party consultants performing tasks related to permit acquisition and operations-related reporting.
  • Lead development of scopes of work for design and construction to ensure completeness and minimize risk and costs.
  • Lead application development and acquisition of drilling-related permits and authorizations from regulatory agencies (EPA)
  • Lead in collaboration with partners in the development of commercial terms and contracts for all aspects of Carbon Capture projects.
  • Collaborate with and lead cross-functional teams to optimize project performance.
  • Provide technical support to Environmental, Regulatory, and Air permitting teams to assist in the acquisition of environmental permits associated with the CCUS facilities.
  • Develop and execute well testing and monitoring plans and supervise submittal of reports and notifications to regulatory agencies, as required.
  • Develop and maintain the CCUS facilities plans and procedures per regulatory and Company requirements and update project documents, as needed.
  • Oversee compliance with CCUS facilities permits, legislation, and Company standards.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies to secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in carbon capture technologies.
  • Assess, recommend, and implement innovative technologies to enhance carbon capture efficiency.
  • Develop an operations plan, complete with procedures, training, and full staffing requirements plan.
  • Support operation of the CCUS facilities through engagement with the Operations team and provide guidance to facilitate regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as the Company's Subject Matter Expert on wells and maintain ongoing knowledge of applicable regulations, including analysis of proposed regulations and potential impacts to the Company's CCUS facilities.
  • Develop carbon utilization revenue streams to include EOR as well as other industry applications.

    Necessary Qualifications:

    • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering
    • Proven experience in carbon capture projects and operations management.
    • In-depth knowledge of carbon capture technologies and industry trends.
    • Proven experience in drilling and production with a focus on CO2 enhanced oil recovery and CO2 storage via sequestration wells.
    • Knowledge and competency in injection well regulations, permitting, reporting, and compliance preferred.
    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Ability to work within a team with demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated self-motivation and direction, timely performance and problem resolution.
    • Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting processes.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.

      Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to continuously sit with frequent forward bending and rotation. The employee must frequently lift, carry and/or move up to 15 pounds; rarely to horizontally lift up to 34 pounds; and rarely lift, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds or swing up to 12 pounds. The employee is required to rarely push or pull up to 100 pounds of force. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally use a right hand grip up to 30 pounds of force; and rarely use hand at an elevated level. The employee is required continuously stand with forward bending and frequently rotating; kneel; and frequently to walk; climb stairs; crouch; squat repetitively; and occasionally crawl. Rarely the employee is required to squat repetitively or reach up to 74”. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

      Working Environment: Works in office environment and site environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Working outdoors in all weather conditions; working in plant environment; working in shop environment; and working in the cab of equipment or vehicle.
