Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our school-based therapy team.

As a COTA in our school district, you will play a vital role in providing occupational therapy services to students, supporting their educational and developmental goals.

You will collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to enhance students' participation in school activities and promote their independence and well-being.

Responsibilities :

  • Conduct assessments and screenings of students' sensory, motor, cognitive, and psychosocial development to determine functional abilities and needs.
  • Assist in the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) and collaborate with the occupational therapist in setting appropriate goals and objectives.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions and activities as outlined in students' IEPs to address fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, self-care skills, and social-emotional development.
  • Provide direct one-on-one or group therapy sessions to students within the school setting, incorporating play-based and educational activities to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and other educational professionals to integrate therapeutic strategies into classroom routines and activities.
  • Educate and train school staff, parents, and caregivers on strategies for supporting students' occupational therapy goals in school and home environments.
  • Monitor and document students' progress, outcomes, and changes in therapy plans, ensuring accurate and timely documentation as required by school policies and regulations.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and school-based planning committees to contribute to students' educational and developmental progress.
  • Collaborate with community resources and agencies to coordinate services and support for students with special needs and their families.

Requirements :

  • Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current state licensure or certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
  • Experience in pediatric or school-based occupational therapy preferred.
  • Knowledge of educational laws and regulations related to special education services, including IDEA and Section 504.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, educators, and healthcare professionals.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to therapy, focusing on student-centered goals and outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a school environment.
