Description Of WorkIf you desire a rewarding career that has a great work/life balance with benefits, please apply today!The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections is seeking an energized and collaborative oriented CAP Construction Superintendent (Maintenance/Construction Supervisor IV) to be a part of the NCDAC Support Services, Central Engineering’s Construction Apprenticeship Program (CAP) team and provide construction support services to challenging yet rewarding projects.
The successful candidate for the CAP Construction Superintendent shall be able to provide technical expertise in the areas of Project and Construction Planning, Contract Administration, Construction Methodologies, Critical Path (CPM) Scheduling, Project Quality Control and Management of field project operations on multi-million-dollar Force Account construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects.
This position provides project supervision for projects, including the coordination of all trades working together to ensure personal and project safety, high level workmanship, quality control, trade skill training of unskilled labor forces, compliance with plans and specifications, completion within the time frames established by Critical Path Method scheduling. This position also requires strong expertise in construction supervision and construction methodology, strong decision-making capabilities, excellent team collaboration skills, and high-level communication skills.
This position has a duty station assigned as the individual’s permanent home address and is assigned a State owned and maintained vehicle that is used to commute to and from the construction projects and to perform Company business during normal working hours. This position's schedule is Monday – Thursday 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM but occasionally could require work hours on Fridays).
This is a full-time position ((40 hours per week) with State Benefits .

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / CompetenciesThe Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. We will not review resumes in lieu of the Experience and Education listed on the application.To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the engineering construction trades principles and practices of construction supervision, scheduling, cost control, and training of unskilled labor forces.
  • Demonstrated experience in directing multi-trade journeyman level workers in a variety of skilled engineering construction trades, including but not limited to concrete, masonry, carpentry, finishes, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, AND/OR electronics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA standards, State Construction Office guidelines, North Carolina Building Codes, AND/OR laws and ordinances governing institutional / industrial / commercial construction.
  • Demonstrated experience with reading/interpreting construction plans and documents.
Management Preference
  • Ability to use MS Office (Word and Excel) and willingness to learn new software programs.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with reading, understanding, and executing Critical Path Method construction scheduling. 5-10 Years.
  • Demonstrated ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, architects, engineers, and contractors.

Associate's degree in construction management, air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressive experience in construction or facility maintenance including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five (5) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special QualificationsMay require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
