NC Department of Adult Correction is Hiring a Correctional Behavioral Specialist II - Maury CI Near Greene, NC

Description Of WorkThis position is located at Maury Correctional Institution and involves working with offenders. This position is assigned to work in the Therapeutic Diversion Unit (TDU). Employees are responsible for identifying the needs of offenders in conjunction with treatment staff and developing psychoeducational groups designed to best meet those needs. In addition to group activities, employees will be responsible for conducting rounds on the unit, will serve as a liaison for clinicians, will assist in conducting psychiatric clinics when needed, and may be asked to conduct specialized case management for developmentally disabled offenders.
ResponsibilitiesIt operates at the direction of an assigned licensed staff member, typically a staff psychologist. Providing professional rehabilitative mental health services to inmates/patients who are identified as having mental, social, physical, emotional and/or cognitive impairments. Responsible for:
  • The implementation and evaluation of group activities.
  • Completing standardized assessments requiring judgment, writing goal-oriented programs, evaluating and documenting progress and participation in weekly interdisciplinary Treatment Team conferences.
  • Serves as case manager for inmates assigned to residential mental health and provides services in accordance with Prison’s policy on Case Management Assessment/Correction Counseling.
  • Regular contact with the offenders, development and implementation of a Case Management Assessment and on-going documentation.
  • Administering and scoring more advance test batteries such as Halstead Reitan, 16PF, and Elizur test for organicity
Management Preferences
Graduation from a four-year college/university with a degree in psychology, or other human services fields with psychology coursework. This coursework should include general psychology, statistics, abnormal personality, and developmental psychology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits . Working Monday - Friday (8am - 5pm)

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess the following:
  • Proficient knowledge of fundamental principles, techniques and methods of behavior therapy field to include assessments, evaluations, development of goals and activities.
  • Proficient knowledge of behavior management techniques.
  • Working knowledge of population served and of the area when required for particular job.
Minimum Education And Experience RequirementsBachelor's degree in psychology or other human services field from an appropriately accredited institution with several classes in psychology, and one year of experience in some area of behavioral health;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Note: Candidates being considered for a position in Diagnostics require at least 2 years of experience administering and/or conducting psychological testing.

They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
