Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Purpose of the Position

Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Senior Vice President and CFO will oversee all financial operations and planning. They will drive financial performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide strategic guidance to achieve short and long-term financial objectives. As a member of the executive team, the CFO will lead the accounting and finance team and collaborate with other teams across the organization. In addition to financial management responsibilities, the CFO plays a crucial role in overseeing the organization's IT systems and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Key organizational responsibilities for the CFO will include:

Financial Strategy Development:

•Develops and executes the company's financial strategy aligned with its overall goals and objectives.

•Partners with the CEO and other executives to develop and execute the company's growth strategy.

•Provides recommendations to the CEO and board of directors on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and investment priorities.

•Identifies, assesses, and mitigates financial risks facing the company.

•Implements robust risk management policies and procedures to safeguard assets, maintain financial stability, and ensure compliance with regulations. 

•Develops tax strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.

•Coordinates with external tax advisors and authorities on tax planning, reporting, and audits.

Financial Planning and Analysis:

•Leads the budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes.

•Provides accurate and timely financial reports, analysis, and insights to support strategic decision-making and drive operational efficiency.

•Oversees the preparation and dissemination of financial statements, regulatory filings, and compliance reports following applicable accounting standards and regulations.

•Ensures financial reporting practices' transparency, accuracy, integrity, and timeliness.

•Manages the company's cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationships.

•Optimizes working capital management, cash conversion cycle, and finance strategies to support ongoing operations and strategic initiatives.

•Establishes and maintains effective internal control systems to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

•Coordinates with external auditors to conduct periodic audits and reviews.

•Oversees internal controls and ensures compliance with all relevant financial regulations.

Financial Leadership:

• Oversees the performance, development, and engagement of the Finance/Accounting team with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service and internal capacity building.

•Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance/accounting function.

• Effectively communicate financial reports to the Board of Directors, Audit, Finance and Investment Sub-Committees, and senior leadership team.

• Stays abreast of current financial trends and best practices.

The Candidate

Experience and Professional Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the CFO role will possess a strong technical background and, more importantly, be a dynamic leader and collaborator. They must demonstrate strategic leadership across the organization and a proven track record of delivering measurable results. 

Specific core qualifications and professional experiences desired include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

•Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.

•10 years in finance/accounting leadership roles, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.

•Extensive experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting.

•Deep understanding of financial principles, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

•Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities

•Demonstrated experience in process improvement and technological innovation within the finance function.

•Excellent leadership, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

•A proven track record of success with developing and implementing financial strategies.

•Leadership experience and the ability to build and motivate a team.

Additionally, the successful candidate should ideally possess the following behavioral and interpersonal skills:

•An empathic leader who can motivate and inspire confidence in others. 

•A leader who can make tough decisions, balanced with demonstrated diplomatic skills and a proven ability to develop good relationships at all levels and work effectively with different leadership styles. 

•An executive with effective and inspiring oral and written communication skills. A confident speaker with outstanding negotiating skills. 

•A self-motivator, creative, cooperative, and collaborative problem solver.
