Principal Transportation Planner – Transit Planning

The Transportation Department is seeking a Principal Transportation Planner to assume a leadership role in Transit Planning in the Transportation Planning/Metropolitan Transportation Plan program area.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Managing technical activities associated with transit system planning, service planning, and analysis
• Preparing transit planning and development documents, including grant applications
• Leading planning and project development activities such as corridor studies and subarea studies
• Applying transit-related data such as performance, ridership, financial, demographic, land use, Census and other factors in a planning capacity
• Building supportive community networks
• Applying comprehensive knowledge of transportation planning, principles, and practices into work tasks
• Coordinating with local governments, transit agencies and public/private interests across the region on transit planning and funding initiatives/needs
• Conducting and overseeing research, analysis, and interpretation of federal, State and local regulations and administrative matters pertaining to transportation planning and funding
• Leading technical support activities associated with Federal Transit Administration Capital Investment Grant applications and federally required environmental studies
• Preparing and reviewing technical reports and project status reports
• Providing technical assistance and support within the agency and to external partners
• Setting project/program direction and priorities through strategic planning
• Developing and monitoring project work scopes and budgets
• Preparing and delivering oral presentations
• Supervising staff

This position requires at least five years of experience as well as a Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods. The individual in this position should have work experience in transportation/transit planning; a familiarity with quantitative methods, ArcGIS, and travel demand modeling; and the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
