The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a Transportation Planner to support the Sustainable Development program, specifically related to Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordination. This position offers an exciting opportunity for candidates to participate in a wide range of activities with stakeholders in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area related to bicycle/pedestrian planning and studies; multi-modal corridor studies; safety education and outreach; a regional pedestrian safety action plan, regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) and stakeholder meetings; data collection, including the bicycle and pedestrian count program; geodatabase file maintenance of regional trails and bikeways; spatial analysis and data editing; and creating detailed maps for various planning projects.

The active transportation network in the Dallas-Fort Worth region consists of more than 8,600 miles of existing and planned regional shared-use paths (Regional Veloweb), supporting community shared-use paths and on-street bikeways in various stages of development. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting with the development, coordination, and review of plans and improvement projects, including roadway, intersection, pedestrian/bicycle, and other capital projects
  • Coordinating with partner agencies, civic associations, and consultants on transportation projects
  • Drafting correspondence, documentation, reports, articles, meeting summaries, and executive summaries
  • Preparing and delivering oral presentations
  • Creating announcements and identifying speakers, topics, and outreach opportunities for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and other project committee meetings
  • Creating and maintaining databases
  • Conducting research and data collection
  • Gathering and analyzing data from multiple sources such as Census data, appraisal district parcel data, land-use, and zoning data, etc.
  • Assisting with the planning, organizing, and promoting of public education programs and materials related to the safety and accessibility of pedestrian and bicycle facilities
  • Assisting with the management of consultant contracts
  • Creating detailed project maps
  • Conducting spatial analysis and data editing

Required Skills

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods such as urban/transportation planning, landscape architecture, etc.
  • At least one year of job-related experience, including work on multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and balancing multiple priorities

Starting Salary Range

Minimum of $51,874.00 – $62,248.80 annually
