Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is Hiring a Forensic Psychiatrist Near Lincoln, NE

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) Lincoln Regional Center (LRC) is searching for a talented MD for our Forensic Psychiatrist position.

LRC is an inpatient, 250 bed, Joint Commission-accredited state psychiatric hospital which is run by DHHS located in Lincoln, NE. LRC serves people who need very specialized psychiatric services and provides services to people who, because of mental illness, require a highly structured treatment setting.

Duties:

The Forensic Psychiatrist functions as the attending of record and reports directly to the State Hospital Medical Director. Staff psychiatrists participate in the care of patients admitted to the state of Nebraska DHHS facilities or outpatient programs as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

As part of these duties the staff psychiatrist completes psychiatric assessments and evaluations of patients admitted to the DHHS services. They review medical information as available and may consult with other medical professionals to interpret clinical findings. The staff psychiatrist will establish a diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan based on these processes. They will treat the psychiatric problems of patients on their case load and prescribe medications for the treatment of psychiatric disorders when indicated.

The staff psychiatrist will work closely with the other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team to formulate an appropriate treatment plan. They will also participate in treatment rounds, case conferences, and other meetings as required. Staff psychiatrists also provide expert opinion to the courts, state mental health boards and the Nebraska department of health and human services when necessary.

They may also be asked to prepare diagnostic reports for DHHS and Lincoln Regional Center administration, judges, Mental Health Boards, and other interested parties. Staff psychiatrist are considered the attending of record and may be involved in the supervision of psychiatry residents or fellows or other medical trainees. They may also be involved in the education, direction and instruction of other professional staff.

What’s required of you:

1. Applicants must hold an M.D. or D.O.

2. Applicants must have or be able to obtain a Nebraska medical license.

3. Applicants must be board certified in Psychiatry.

4. Applicants must have completed an ACGME accredited forensic psychiatry fellowship and be board eligible or board certified in forensic psychiatry.

5. Applicants must interested in working for the State of Nebraska forensic psychiatry department up to 50% of the time.

6. Applicants must be interested in working in the State of Nebraska clinical care services carrying a clinical case load as assigned.
