TITLE: Education Specialist
LOCATION: Home-based serving west and west-central Nebraska (Candidate must live in the Northwest or Southwest membership region of Nebraska Farm Bureau. See https://www.nefb.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/RM-Map_Colored.pdf for map.)
REPORTS TO: Director of Outreach Education
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Education Specialist engages Nebraskans – primarily students – to understand the value of Nebraska agriculture through interactive lessons and hands-on activities.
FUNDAMENTAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Present agricultural literacy lessons and activities in school settings.
2. Recruit teachers and farm/ranch volunteers to participate in Nebraska Agriculture in the Classroom programs including Classroom Visits, the Ag Pen Pal program, Virtual Field Trips, and Agriculture Reading Hour. Manage scheduling and logistics of participation.
3. Present at extended learning events such as Ag Festivals, Nature Nights, After-School Programs, Summer Camps, and Virtual Field Trips.
4. Work collaboratively with Director of Outreach Education to develop agricultural literacy lessons and resources that are age-appropriate, support classroom learning goals, and promote the National Agricultural Literacy Outcomes and Pillars of Agricultural Literacy.
5. Complete timely and accurate documentation of program activity, reflecting both numbers and stories, to assist with program funding proposals and reports.
6. Provide programming across assigned territory. Company vehicle provided. 75% daytime travel/home evening. Occasional overnight travel.
7. Other duties as assigned.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of Nebraska agriculture and the ability to deliver scripted agriculture lessons that are entertaining, engaging, and educational. A bachelor’s degree in agriculture or education and personal agriculture experience is required. Experience teaching youth in a formal or informal education setting and knowledge of academic and/or vocational education curricula is preferred.
