Nutrition Therapist Specialty Services

Nebraska Medicine is now taking applications for a talented individual with a passion for new technology, research, data analysis, and knowledge dissemination. Join the newly forming team that will work in our Innovation Design Unit (IDU) and collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, patients, and families in this new technology-laden environment. Work in a highly supportive environment where Registered Dietitians are sought out for their expertise in Medical Nutrition Therapy.

The IDU will be an active environment focused on inpatient care which intends to rigorously pilot new models of care and innovation. The unit will leverage processes, technologies, and facility design concepts within a platform for continuous discovery that powers rapid insights, knowledge sharing, and translational education throughout the enterprise and beyond. The unit will serve adult medical/surgical patients and will routinely have four ICU-level patients as well.

The IDU is designed to enhance quality, safety, and clinical outcomes for our patients, lowering the cost of care, optimizing team-based care and communication, improving the lives of our care teams, our teachers and learners, and our researchers, and empowering our teams to work, practice, and educate more efficiently.

An ideal candidate for this position would possess 5 years of Clinical experience in Acute Care.

Manage medical nutrition care for patients who are nutritionally complex. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to integrate nutrition care with the patient's overall plan of care throughout the continuum. Use the Nutrition Care Process and Terminology (NCPT) to assess nutrition status, identify nutrition diagnoses, and develop, implement and evaluate outcomes of nutrition care plans for patients at nutrition risk. Use skills, knowledge, evidence-based practice, and clinical judgment to address prevention, delay, or management of acute or chronic diseases and conditions for individuals and groups. Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients, families and the community. Train nutrition and other health care profession students in the clinical and classroom setting. Conduct process improvement, outcomes measurement and nutrition focused clinical research and participate in interprofessional process improvement initiatives for specified patient populations.

Required Qualifications:

* Minimum of three years of relevant clinical practice experience required.

* Bachelor's degree and completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics required.

* Completion of required nutrition and dietetics coursework and supervised practice through a Didactic Program in Dietetics and Dietetic Internship, Coordinated Program in Dietetics, or Future Graduate Program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required.

* Knowledge and application of Nutrition Care Process and Terminology (NCPT); knowledge and application of Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE) required.

* Clear and consistent written and verbal communication required.

* Proficient in use of technology and its applications, including word processing, nutrient analysis, spreadsheet software required.

* Critical thinking to integrate facts, informed opinions, active listening and observation required.

* Analysis of information to identify implications, develop solutions and conclusions and evaluate each alternative to make sound decisions based on appropriate data required.

* Service excellence and patient centered care required.

* Interpersonal skills (respect, honesty, fairness, positive attitude toward colleagues and customers) required.

* Focus on customer satisfaction when working with patients, families, coworkers, other departments, physicians/ providers, and the community required.

* Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required.

* Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist (LMNT) by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services required.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree in nutrition and dietetics, or related area granted by a US regionally accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent preferred.

* Specialty certification, e.g., Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) preferred.
