APP, Critical Care Anesthesia
Nebraska Medicine is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join our Critical Care Anesthesia team on our main campus in Omaha, NE. We are looking for a highly skilled and team-oriented APP who can provide comprehensive healthcare to patients in an intensive care unit (ICU). The responsibilities include diagnosing and treating critically ill patients who have had major surgeries (e.g., cardiac, thoracic, vascular, ENT, OMFS, organ transplants, cancer-related surgeries), as well as managing patients on mechanical circulatory support and initiating and managing ventilatory support and performing routine bedside procedures such as placing arterial, central, and hemodialysis lines independently.

Duties: APP, Critical Care Anesthesia
This position welcomes all levels of Nurse Practitioners (NP's) and Physician Assistant's (PA's) to apply to this inpatient unit for Critical Care Anesthesia. Strong preference will go to those will previous RN or APP ICU experience.
Provide comprehensive complex/critical care for high risk medical and/or surgical patients. Diagnose medical conditions, plan and implement interventions, and evaluate patient responses in collaboration with the designated supervising physician. Perform and assist with both routine and complex diagnostic and therapeutic medical and/or surgical procedures.
Required Qualifications PA's:
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program required.
  • Maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours to meet State of Nebraska and NCCPA certification requirements required.
  • Ability to function with autonomy and able to make independent decisions while functioning as part of a comprehensive team required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written forms required.
  • Ability to provide critical thinking and analytical skills required.
  • Efficient use of information systems, data processing systems, telecommunication devices, office equipment, and audiovisual teaching/education resources required.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow policy, procedure, guidelines and protocols required.
  • Flexibility and dedication to team involvement and supporting organizational goals required.
  • Certification by the National Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) [Or if new graduate, eligible for certification and certification completed prior to beginning to provide care] required.
  • Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska (or eligible for license prior to beginning to provide care) required.
  • Federal DEA licensure required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) department dependent required.
Required Qualifications NP's:
  • Minimum of two years nurse practitioner experience or equivalent combination of nursing and nurse practitioner experience combined (two years of RN experience equals one year of APRN experience) required.
  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
  • Ability to function with autonomy and able to make independent decisions while functioning as part of a comprehensive team required.
  • Able to effectively communicate in verbal and written forms required.
  • Ability to provide critical thinking and analytical skills required.
  • Efficient use of information systems, data processing systems, telecommunication devices, office equipment, audiovisual teaching/education resources required.
  • Able to comprehend and follow policy, procedure, guidelines and protocols required.
  • Flexibility and dedication to team involvement and supporting organizational goals required.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska or current compact state required.
  • Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) required.
  • Federal DEA license required.
  • Basic Life Support required.
  • Appropriate certification required based on position, department and population served: 1. For Adult Acute population: Adult Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC), or Acute Care (ACNP-BC), or Adult (ANP-BC) or Family (FNP) (FNP will be required to obtain post graduate certificate for AGACNP-BC within 3 years of hire or transfer date, unless in the emergency services department) required.
  • 2. For Pediatric Acute population: Pediatric Acute (CPNP-AC) or Pediatric Primary (CPNP-PC) or Family (FNP) (CPNP-PC and FNP will be required to obtain post graduate certificate for CPNP-AC within 3 years of hire or transfer date) required.
  • 3. For neonatal population: Neonatal (NNP-BC) required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) department dependent required.
Preferred Qualifications PA's:
  • Prior experience working in a related health care field as a Physician Assistant preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of health care policy and societal factors affecting the delivery of care preferred.
  • Familiarity with patient care equipment and procedures as appropriate to specialty area preferred.
Preferred Qualifications NP's:
  • Doctorate Nursing Practice (DNP) preferred.
  • Knowledge of health care policy and societal factors affecting the delivery of care preferred.
  • Familiar with patient care equipment as appropriate to specialty area preferred.
