Assistant to the Superintendent position in the Superintendent's Office. The Assistant will provide key support to the Superintendent and the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent as well as be a point of contact for families, staff, and visitors to the NPS administrative offices. The Assistant to the Superintendent will handle a variety of tasks, including assisting with the superintendent's schedule; handling confidential documents, contracts, negotiation documents, and legal settlements; coordinating communications to families; assisting with writing and coordinating the superintendent's correspondence; and providing confidential support to the School Committee.
The ideal candidate will be outstanding with people and processes and have the ability to manage multiple projects without missing deadlines. The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple and demanding requests and have a calming presence. The Assistant to the Superintendent will be an exceptional communicator and writer, can manipulate data sources and create detailed presentations, and is comfortable with various technology applications and social media. The successful candidate will have the ability to:
- Engage, welcome, assist, and direct staff, families, and visitors to the administrative offices
- Assist with the smooth and daily operation of the administration building, including aiding visitors and staff and facilitating the use of spaces in the building
- In collaboration with the Superintendent or Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, write correspondence, communications, and newsletters to ensure timely, effective, and coherent messaging
- Ensure the district website remains updated and looks for ways to improve the accessibility and relevance of information shared there
- Assist with special projects as assigned by the Superintendent or Executive Assistant to the Superintendent many of which will require data skills and independent problem-solving
- Take and transcribe minutes of the School Committee meetings
- Minutes are to be submitted for a vote in a timely manner within 30 days of the meeting
- Minutes may be taken by viewing the meetings remotely; however, occasional in-person attendance may be required.
Skills and Qualifications: - Communicates clearly and professionally in both speech and writing
- Has experience in K-12 education or a similar field, ideally in a position supporting school or district leadership
- Comfortable working with databases and Google Suite tools (docs, sheets, slides)
- Juggles multiple responsibilities and adapts to change
- Maintains and improves organizational systems; identifies opportunities for improvement
- Accurate typing skills and the use of proper grammar and punctuation are required
- Forges positive collaborative relationships with district colleagues and community partners
- Creates a warm and welcoming environment for all staff, students, families, and visitors
- Safeguards confidential information
- Demonstrates a commitment to celebrating diversity and pursuing equity
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required: Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines and equipment, including a computer(macOS) and basic office equipment. Must be able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift/carry weights of five to ten pounds. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
