Needham Public School District is Hiring a Data Analyst & Reporting Specialist Near Needham, MA

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Financial Operations, the Data Analyst & Reporting Specialist has responsibility for performing data analysis of staff and student enrollment, demographic, assessment and other data; for preparing and submitting required reports to local, state and federal agencies; and for supporting and training staff on data analysis applications.

Essential Functions and Duties of the Position: The essential functions and duties listed below are intended as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Performs analysis of school district data, including but not limited to: student attendance, enrollment, demographic, and performance data; staffing and other data. The analysis scope may include other data, as directed.
  • Prepares and submits required reports to local, state and federal agencies. These reports include, but are not limited to: Student Information Management System (SIMS), Student Course Schedule (SCS), School Attending Children, Education Personnel Information Management System (EPIMS), Elementary-Secondary Staff Information (EEO-5) , School Safety & Discipline Report (SSDR), Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC), the End-of-Financial Report, Time and Effort reports for federal grants, as well as other assigned reports.
  • Provides training and support to staff members on using a variety of applications to collect, validate, retrieve, interpret, and analyze data. The applications scope includes the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS), the financial management system; a variety of assessment systems, data visualization tools, databases, and other systems as directed. Empowering employees through skill development to enable data-driven decision making is a major focus of this position.
  • Manages a structured staff data request process, including intake, prioritization, fulfilment, and communication protocols, while working with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate data delivery.
  • Works collaboratively with the District Registrar, Finance Office, Human Resources Office, the Administrative Technology Office and other school staff to ensure the proper recording, validation and reporting of district data. This scope includes the continual documentation and assessment of district data flows and practices to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, to maintain data integrity, and to enable process improvement.
  • Attends professional development to stay abreast of changing requirements, new technologies and data needs.
  • Keeps the Assistant Director of Financial Operations fully informed on data analysis and reporting tasks.
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.

Supervision Received:

-Works independently, reporting to Assistant Director of Financial Operations.

Supervision Exercised:

-No direct supervision, although works with a variety of school employees form all organizational levels and departments.

Job Environment:

-Works in typical office environment, with moderate noise and occasional interruptions.

Education and Experience:

-Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math/statistics, business/finance, demography or a related field. Two years of prior experience with data analysis and/or reporting required. Prior experience in a Massachusetts public school system working with PowerSchool, and school district data analysis/reporting preferred. 

Abilities & Knowledge:

Skills: Skill in data analysis, database management, software and related technology applications. Skill in report-building and/or programming preferred. Skills in data presentation and training.

Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively with others. Ability to multitask. Ability to deliver superior verbal (in-person and telephone) and written communications and customer service. Ability to maintain strong attention to detail and have the capacity to meet frequent and hard deadlines while ensuring accuracy. Ability to prioritize and organize information and processes. Ability to work in a faced-paced, team environment. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to student records.

Knowledge: Knowledge of report-building and computer programming preferred. Proficiency with database, spreadsheet, office and productivity software applications.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work at a desk; regularly convey information to staff, vendors, and the public; regularly move about inside the office to access file cabinets and office machinery; and traverse stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds, such as supplies, folders, and books. Ability to operate a keyboard and calculator at efficient speed and to view computer screens for extended periods of time. Operates motor vehicle. Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Work Year:

This position has a work year of 260 days, at 7 hours per day.

Salary Information:

FLSA: Exempt

Proposed Salary Scale: Independent Contract, Grade J: $90,891 - $103,923
